Well, I never felt pressure. No, I always did what I wanted to do. I’ve done what I wanted to do every day. There’s too many bossy boots around. Think they know best, and so on. You’ve got to keep telling them, keep shouting, “But could you do it over there? Not my way.” I prefer bright light so you can see things. And Southern California is wonderful for that. And the colors seem vivid and bright. Therefore, makes you feel better. When I paint, I feel I’m 30. I do, actually. It’s only when I stop, I feel my age.
