What to Know About New Year’s Rockin’ Eve 2025: Performers and More

It wouldn’t be New Year’s Eve without Ryan Seacrest.

The American Idol host will once again present Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest, which takes place in New York’s Times Square. Seacrest, who will be joined by cohost Rita Ora this year, has helmed the show since 2006. He began as Dick Clark’s cohost before the the late founder’s death at age 82 in 2012.

The live New Year’s countdown will feature musical performances throughout the evening. This year’s headliner is Carrie Underwood, who will reunite with Seacrest again in March 2025 when she joins the American Idol judges’ panel 20 years after winning the reality competition series.

“I have such fun memories of performing on New Year’s Rockin’ Eve in Times Square in both 2007 and 2015, and I’m so excited to perform just before the ball drops again this year,” Underwood said in a December statement. “I’m thrilled to celebrate 20 years since winning American Idol by joining Ryan as he hosts his 20th New Year’s Eve in Times Square.”

Seacrest told Entertainment Weekly in 2022 that he feels “so grateful” for the longstanding gig.

“[Watching the show] was a tradition for me growing up, and [for] my family. We would order pizza and watch the show,” he said. “I think the idea for us is just to create a big party for people who don’t want to go anywhere, who want to just relax, be in their homes, be with their families, order pizza, order buffalo wings, whatever it is. We can bring the excitement, the energy and the New Year to them. That’s what Dick told me all along. He goes, ‘We’re talking to people who are at home, but we bring the excitement to them through our show.’”

Who Is Performing at ‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve’ 2025?

Underwood will perform a medley of her greatest hits just before the ball drops at midnight. Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Lenny Kravitz, Teddy Swims, Tinashe, Cody Johnson, Thomas Rhett and Megan Moroney will also take the stage.

“2024 has been such an incredible year and I’ll be wrapping it up with a LIVE performance from Times Square on New Year’s @RockinEve with @RyanSeacrest,” Moroney wrote via her Instagram Story after her involvement was announced on December 5.

Ora will return as Seacrest’s cohost after making her debut during the 2024 show. Dayanara Torres will once again host the special’s Spanish-language countdown in Puerto Rico.

How to Watch ‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve’ 2025

The most-watched New Year’s Eve show will air on ABC December 31, beginning at 8 p.m. ET. It will also be available to stream on Hulu the next day.
