Wendy Osefo Removed From Wesleyan Teaching Position After Arrest
Wesleyan University confirmed that Real Housewives of Potomac star Wendy Osefo has been removed from her position as a professor.
“Wendy Osefo is no longer an employee of Wesleyan University,” the college shared in a statement to Us Weekly on Tuesday, October 14.
A Bravo fan account was first to report the news on Tuesday, claiming that students received an email from “the director of Wesleyan,” sharing that Wendy “would no longer be teaching the course.”
Wendy’s role at the university started in the fall of 2024. She taught a class on reality television and social issues.
Her removal from the university came days after Wendy, 41, and her husband, Eddie Osefo, were arrested and booked on fraud charges in Westminster, Maryland, on Thursday, October 9. Court documents obtained by Us revealed that a grand jury indicted Wendy on charges of insurance fraud, conspiracy insurance fraud and making a false statement to police officers.
Wendy and Eddie, 41, both posted $50,000 bail and were released on Friday, October 10.
“Dr. Wendy Osefo and her husband, Edward Osefo, are back home safely with their family and in good spirits,” a rep for the couple told Us in a statement on Friday. “They are grateful for the outpouring of concern and support from friends, fans, and colleagues. The Osefos, alongside their legal team, look forward to their day in court. At this time, they respectfully ask for privacy as they focus on their family and the legal process ahead.”
Wendy and Eddie were arrested more than a year after the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of an alleged burglary at their home in April 2024. At the time, the couple claimed that they returned home from a trip to find their house ransacked and several valuables missing.
They filed two separate insurance claims with separate companies, claiming $2,500 in damages for the building and $450,000 in property. Their first claim to Travelers Insurance was settled for $25,380 that same month. It included $4,500 for Wendy’s gold diamond anniversary band, which was allegedly one of the items that went missing.
In a separate claim to Jewelers Mutual Insurance, the wedding band was listed among the missing items. The previously settled claim had not been mentioned.
An investigation into the burglary found that some items that the Osefos claimed were stolen had actually been purchased and returned for a full refund. Social media photos also appeared to show Wendy wearing the wedding band they claimed had been stolen.
Their arrest on Thursday included a search of Wendy and Eddie’s home, in which several of the items claimed to be stolen were found. Police claimed in the report that it appeared Wendy and Eddie were “burdened by substantial debt.”
Several Bravo stars, including Andy Cohen, have since reacted to the news of Wendy and Eddie’s arrest.
“I’m sad about this. I’m really sad about this and Wendy is just, you know, I’m a Wendy fan and she has been a great Housewife and a great role model,” Cohen, 57, said during SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live on Monday, October 13. “She’s always led with education and her solid family values, and so I’m really thinking about her and her family and I’m certainly hoping that this is all some big nothing.”
