Vanderbilt QB Diego Pavia’s Brother Arrested for Intoxication During Game

Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia’s brother has been arrested during his sibling’s game — for the second time this season.

Javier Pavia was jailed on Saturday, November 29, after Vanderbilt faced off against Tennessee at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville for public intoxication, according to a report from Knox News.

According to the police report obtained by the outlet, Javier, 25, was repeatedly asked by University of Tennessee staff to lower a flag which was blocking the view of others at the game.

The arresting officer claims Javier was arguing with the staff, and the officer who filed the arrest report says Javier was slurring his speech, unsteady on his feet and appeared drunk.

“[Javier] was also extremely verbally combative with event staff and myself,” the report further alleged.

According to Knox News, the charges Javier faces are both misdemeanors.

Javier and his older brother, Roel, 26, were previously arrested and charged with public intoxication and resisting arrest on August 30, after Vanderbilt’s win over Charleston Southern.

Meanwhile, Diego, 24, has taken the NCAA by storm, leading the Commodores to a 10-2 season and a No. 14 ranking. He finished the regular season on a high note on Saturday with a magnificent performance in a 41-29 win over No. 19 Tennessee.

The senior quarterback threw for 268 yards and one touchdown, while rushing for another 165 yards and a touchdown.

Vanderbilt fans started chanting “Heisman” for their star quarterback after the game as he celebrated the win in which he struck a “Heisman pose” — when players pose like the Heisman trophy — after scoring a touchdown.

“Take me to New York,” Pavia said on SEC Network after the game. “You look at the numbers, you look at what we have here and obviously we did something that’s never been done. It’s just a blessing being on this stage, something I’ve dreamed about since I was a kid.”

He celebrated the big win with his mom, Antoinette Padilla, who has also been making headlines this season.

Padilla frequently finds herself in front of the camera, going viral on social media with her dubious outfit and dance moves during Vanderbilt’s November 22 win over Kentucky. During the TV broadcast, ESPN cut to Padilla consistently throughout the game, while she was wearing her cowboy boots and a “Pavia for Heisman” T-shirt, dancing and cheering on her son. At one point even straddled the spectator railing at the stadium while she was dancing.

Before that game, Padilla was on the field for Vanderbilt’s Senior Day festivities, joined by comedian Theo Vonn, who previously joked with Pavia about dating his mom. Pavia promised Vonn a date with Padilla if Vanderbilt beat South Carolina in an earlier matchup, which they did.

On the SEC Network broadcast, Vonn, 45, talked about potentially marrying Padilla, who works as a nurse.

“My goal is, I would like to marry a nurse one day,” he said. “I don’t even know if I’d do it. I like being [Pavia’s] friend. I don’t want to end up being like his stepdad or something.”

Vonn did clarify on X that he and Padilla are not an item.

“Never got the date, but did develop a friendship with the greatest family in college sports!” he wrote. “God Bless the Pavias!”
