Tell Me Lies Season 3: What to Know After Stephen’s Revenge Plan
Tell Me Lies will continue to push boundaries now that it has been renewed for a third season.
Based on Carola Lovering‘s novel of the same name, Tell Me Lies follows the messy relationship between college students Lucy (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen (Jackson White). Their problematic on-and-off romance ends up lasting eight years — and everyone around them is affected by Lucy and Stephen’s ups and downs.
Season 2 raised the stakes after showcasing Lucy and Stephen’s first breakup. They initially were at odds while trying to move on but the pair reconciled in both the past and present timeline while in relationships with other people.
The drama escalated when Lucy and Stephen got back together in college — and he found out that she had previously hooked up with his friend Evan (Branden Cook). He seemed to take the news well — until Tell Me Lies jumped to the present day during Evan’s wedding to Lucy’s friend Bree (Cat Missal). No one could find Stephen as Cat received a voice message from Evan confessing to cheating on her with Lucy.
Season 3, which has been ordered by Hulu, is expected to pick up immediately after Cat found out about Lucy’s betrayal. It also remains to be seen whether Lucy breaks things off with Stephen for good in the present timeline while viewers keep watching them crash and burn in the past.

When Is Season 3 Airing on Hulu — And Who Is Coming Back?
Hulu renewed Tell Me Lies in December 2024. In addition to White and Van Patten, Missal, Spencer House, Sonia Mena, Cook and Alicia Crowder are expected to return.
Is There a Plan for Where the Show Is Heading?
“I always had a sense of where they are in 2015 and what their dynamic is and what secrets everyone is holding. Once you at least know what people know and what they don’t know, that gives you a lot of space to play,” showrunner Meaghan Oppenheimer exclusively told Us Weekly in October 2024 about juggling two timelines. “But the way that we constructed it is we definitely did the 2008 storyline first in the room. We kind of mapped out the whole season and then we did 2015 as its own thing.”
Oppenheimer continued: “I knew where I wanted to end the season, though, in 2015. I knew where it needed to get to.”
How Will Wrigley Deal With Drew’s Death?
Drew came back into Wrigley’s life at the end of season 2 after a year-long estrangement. Their reunion took a turn when Drew mixed alcohol with some pills Wrigley gave him and ultimately died from an overdose.
“He does kill him. It’s not on purpose. And people who work on the show will disagree with me, but Wrigley is with his brother at a bar,” House noted to Us in October 2024. “He gives him a pill that he’s not prescribed and it kills him. So he does kill his brother. He doesn’t mean to but that is a thing he’s always going to carry with him for the rest of his life.”
Despite flash forwards showing Wrigley in a dark place, House hoped he would get to a better place.
“Now that we’ve done the spiral [with him], I would like to see some sort of path in a positive direction. We know how that ends,” House said to Us in reference to the show’s present day timeline not allowing Wrigley a lot of growth. “He’s a little bit onto everything that’s going on. It’s up to the writers, but I would love to just do something different than another spiral. I love doing it, but I would like to see hope.”
He added: “Maybe in a 2015 storyline you would see if he gets better. But also we don’t spend a lot of time there, so I don’t know how they’re going to do that. I’ll do my job as always, and we’ll see how it goes.”
Will Bree Call Off the Wedding?
“I haven’t planned it but I do think that everyone would probably like to see Bree get some sort of revenge,” Oppenheimer teased to Us about how Bree will handle the revelation about Evan and Lucy. “Because she’s really been done dirty by everyone. She deserves that, and she probably wants it.”
Could Tom Ellis Return as Bree’s Professor?
Bree had a secret romance with her professor, which came to an end in season 2. After Bree received calls on her wedding day from a mystery person, the Tell Me Lies cast and crew weighed in on whether it was Oliver.
“I don’t know that those voicemails are from Oliver. That’s probably what people think, but I think it’s probably someone more surprising than that,” Oppenheimer told Us.
Missal added, “It’s a little juicy, isn’t it? I’m going to let people have their theories and we’ll kind of see how it plays out. It’s really exciting to not know and be surprised at what happens.”
Ellis agreed that viewers will have to “wait and see” how the story unfolds.
Are Pippa and Diana Going to Last?
According to the present timeline, Pippa and Diana start dating — but will they make it in the long run?
“Man, I hope so. That would be cool. I think that they both deserve it,” Crowder exclusively told Us in October 2024. “They’ve both been through so much because of external factors, but also because of this group of people. I really hope so and it looks like they’re in a good place. Obviously no relationship is perfect and we have some issues that we’re working out.”
Mena, however, wasn’t sure based on the other Tell Me Lies couples, adding, “But nobody ever is happy on this show.”
Will Thomas Doherty Reprise His Role as Leo?
Despite Leo’s arc seemingly coming to an end, Doherty didn’t rule out a return, telling Us in December 2024, “Maybe Leo isn’t all that he seems. There is a lot to do with him.”
He continued: “I wasn’t actually too surprised about the fans’ reaction to my character. After season 1, Leo just slotted into that gap. It made sense. What did surprise me was all the outpouring of love. It’s really kind of overwhelming at times.”
Could the ‘Tell Me Lies’ Franchise Grow?
After Tell Me Lies was renewed, Oppenheimer signed an overall deal with 20th TV, which is a part of Disney Television Studios.
“Meaghan has shepherded Tell Me Lies for two intensely addictive seasons that fueled an incredible wave of obsessive fan and social conversation,” President of 20th Television Karey Burke said in a December 2024 statement. “We are thrilled to have her officially in the studio fold and at the helm of another dramatic season.”
