Teen Mom’s Amber Portwood Talks Missing Daughter Leah’s 16th Birthday

Amber Portwood became emotional after not being invited to celebrate daughter Leah’s 16th birthday.
“I haven’t slept for two days. I haven’t eaten for two days,” Amber, 34, said on the Thursday March 27, episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter. “This s*** sucks that my daughter’s turning 16 and she don’t want to see me. She already made it known that she doesn’t want me in her life. I got her presents anyway, and I’m going to write her a card today.”
As Amber expressed her feelings to brother Shawn, Leah decided to celebrate her big day by having dinner with her dad, Gary Shirley, and his wife, Kristina Shirley.
“I don’t want [Amber] around but I do have abandonment issues from it,” Leah explained in a confessional interview. “It doesn’t hurt me that she’s not here. It’s just the fact that she did it in the first place. When she was supposed to be there is what’s affecting me.”
The high school student — who is currently enrolled in therapy — revealed that she has only seen her mom a handful of times in the last year.
Leah’s mom, however, remains hopeful that the estranged relationship with her daughter can one day improve.
“I really wish that she could just understand that I can understand what’s going on, and I do wish I was with her but it’s ok,” Amber said. “I just wish she could forgive me one day, just one day. I’ll wait forever.”
In the meantime, Amber gifted Leah several items including a blanket and hand-written card.
“Sweetheart, today is a very special moment in your life,” Amber’s letter stated. “I know we are apart, but you are always in my thoughts, prayers and spirit. … I’ll be waiting for you forever. I love you more than words I could write. Happy 16th birthday.”
Kristina also gifted her step-daughter a handwritten note and a promise ring that symbolizes her commitment.
“I may not have been there from the beginning, but I want you to know no blood on earth could make you more mine,” Kristina wrote in her letter. “You are, have always been and always will be enough. Thank you for allowing me into your life. I promise to always hold your hand and remain by your side and I promise to love you unconditionally and be the best mother to you until my last breath.”
Teen Mom: The Next Chapter airs on MTV Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET.
