Sydney Sweeney’s Hairstylist Defends Her After Critic Teases Her ‘Wig’

Sydney Sweeney’s hairstylist has her back.

Sweeney, 28, wore her blonde mane in a blown-out bob while making an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday, December 2. After the show aired, content creator Blakely Neiman Thornton took to Instagram to comment on her “stiffest wig.”

“It gives me no pleasure to poke fun at what I see, but I have to do so,” Thornton said. Sweeney’s longtime hairstylist, Glen “Coco” Oropeza, then defended the actress in since-deleted comments, which Thornton shared via his Instagram Story.

“Wasn’t a wig but you can’t get my girl’s name out of your mouth,” Oropeza, 35, allegedly wrote. “You’re obsessed.”

Jeff Spicer/Getty Images for Sony Pictures Blake Lively has received public support from her famous friends and other Hollywood stars following the news of her lawsuit against Justin Baldoni. Lively sued It Ends With Us director and costar Baldoni for sexual harassment in a lawsuit filed on Friday, December 20. According to court documents, which […]

Thornton then replied to the hairstylist’s comment, writing, “Hi @glencocoforhair, So nice of you to hop in the chat to defend the honor of your white employer who’s doubled down on Eugenics. My apologies … the hairstyle on Fallon merely LOOKED like a stiff wig. Please, carry on 😘.” (Thorton referenced Sweeney’s viral American Eagle ad in which she boasted about her “great genes,” which to many appeared to be in support of eugenics.)

Oropeza then clapped back at Thornton again and replied to his comment.

“Stiff where? You’re doing a lot… Take a breath, diva. You can keep trying to spin a narrative, but we all know you just need click bait cuz your content is TIRED,” she wrote. “If you need attention, just say that. Imagine caring this much about a hairstyle you didn’t create and a woman who doesn’t know you exist. Goodnight.”

Thornton again responded, “I hope you get paid overtime for being a sycophant after 9pm PST. If so I can sign your timesheet. And you’re right, Black people are tired … very much so … good luck on the rest of the press tour.”

The influencer then posted a meme of Raven Simone laughing, captioning the post, “Watching Sydney’s hairstylist crash out in the comments.” He added, “It’s 11pm and I’m feeling petty.”

Sweeney first debuted her bob last month at the Christy premiere during the AFI Fest. She later opened up to The Hollywood Reporter in November about the new look.

“So my hairstylist Glen Coco just wanted to be able to do something different and I’m his little science experiment,” she gushed. “I love him so much [that] I let him cut and color my hair.”

She went on to candidly explain that she wasn’t immediately in love with her bob.

“I was a little nervous,” she admitted. “I think my long hair became my security blanket. I always wanted it down [and] wavy. But I’m loving this.”

Her colorist Jacob Schwartz also told Vogue that the actress was “looking for a change” and lightened her “dark suede blonde” hair to a brighter color to make “her eyes and features pop.”
