Sister Wives’ Meri Jokes About Why Kody Wants to Walk Her Down Aisle
Meri Brown confessed she doesn’t “understand a lot of the things” that come out of ex-husband Kody Brown’s mouth — including his comments about her future wedding.
During the November 24 episode of Sister Wives, Kody, 55, helped Meri, 53, move out of her home in Arizona and into her place in Utah. After crying over the “end of the era” between them, Kody promised Meri that if she gets married again, he “won’t be weird.”
He quickly went back on his promise, however, when he revealed he had big plans for Meri’s next nuptials. “I get to walk her down the aisle,” Kody declared, which took Meri by surprise.
Meri looked back on the moment on Tuesday, December 10, exclusively telling Us Weekly that she’s still stunned by Kody’s comments. “He did [say that] and I also said, ‘Yeah, no.’ I might’ve added an expletive in there, but yeah, no. That’s not happening at all,” she said of Kody’s idea. “It just doesn’t make sense.”
Although it’s a hard pass for Kody to walk his first wife and now ex down the aisle someday, Meri did get a laugh out of the whole thing.
“I did joke with him and say, ‘Hey, the only reason why you want to walk me down the aisle is to just make sure that I am gotten rid of. Please take her, take her. I don’t want her back,’” she added with a laugh.
Meri and Kody tied the knot in 1990. Three years later, they added sister wife Janelle Brown and in 1994 Christine Brown joined the family. Meri and Kody hit a bump in their relationship after he legally divorced her in 2014 to legally marry fourth wife Robyn Brown and adopt her children from a prior relationship.
Even though Meri and Kody remained spiritually married for nearly 10 more years, they never quite got back to their old dynamic. After Christine, 53, and Janelle, 55, announced their splits from Kody in 2021 and 2022, respectively, Meri confirmed in January 2023 that she and Kody had also called it quits.
Despite the rocky end to their relationship, Meri, who shares child Leon with her former spouse, told Us she’s open to finding love again. But she’s done with polygamy.
Meri said she’d “absolutely” get hitched again, but she’s only looking for monogamous relationships. “I just think that having somebody that is committed to me and that I’m committed to, that I can share my life with and share my experiences is a pretty cool thing,” she gushed.
Following her split from Kody, Meri dated Amos. The pair began seeing each other in October 2023 but called it quits in February.
“Last week, I had to face some hard truths and have some difficult conversations. Just because I care a lot about someone, and him me, does not equate to full compatibility for a long-term relationship,” she revealed via social media at the time. “When we have different dreams and aspirations, different communication styles and values, different visions for our futures, and these things aren’t aligning, it’s then that we need to make hard decisions.”
Meri noted, “It’s only in the dating process that you can come to these realizations, that’s what living and dating is all about. When the time is right for me, I will dip my toes into this process again.”
The reality star has kept her dating life private in the months since but told Us on Tuesday that she’s “dating” but not seeing anyone exclusively. Meri recalled the “interesting” ups and downs of dating after divorce, recalling one mishap that wasn’t “quite a disaster” but didn’t end well.
“There’s been more disaster conversations that don’t even get to a date,” she explained, pointing to a time when a man’s girlfriend “reached out to me and is, like, ‘Ah.’ I’m like, ‘No, you can have them. [I] didn’t know.’”
Meri teased that “people are weird,” noting she doesn’t “understand why people can’t be honest and upfront” in relationships. Her fame has become another dating hurdle with some people thinking she has a “fake profile” or looking for their “five minutes of fame.”
The setbacks, however, haven’t deterred Meri. “You gotta weed through all of that,” she concluded.
Sister Wives airs on TLC Sundays at 10 p.m. ET.
