Selena Gomez Shares Why She Wore 3 Wedding Dresses During Her Nuptials
Selena Gomez had a strategic reason for wearing not one, not two, but three dresses during her wedding day with husband Benny Blanco.
Gomez, 33, opened up about her decision to wear multiple gowns on her big day while making an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show on Tuesday, October 21.
“I tried to do this sneaky thing and I’m sure you can relate,” the actress told the host. “I didn’t want anyone to get photos of my wedding unless it was from me,” she explained. “I keep my life as private as I can.”
The Only Murders in the Building star shared that she dedicated one gown to her first look and another for her romantic ceremony with Blanco, 37.
“So that [first] dress was initially for the look,” she said, referencing a custom Ralph Lauren dress featuring a halter neckline and pleated A-line skirt. The design was complete with an open back, 3-D florals on her neckline and a glamorous train.
She went on to explain that her “favorite dress” was the sheer number she wore during her ceremony. “It was a dream,” she gushed of the look, featuring a lace neckline, a see-through skirt and a corset bodice. While walking down the aisle, she accessorized with sparkling diamond earrings and a stunning veil.
Lastly, she changed into a midi dress for her reception, complete with an off-the-shoulder neckline, a fitted bodice and an A-line skirt that flowed as she danced. Blanco, for his part, looked timeless in a black-and-white tuxedo also designed by Ralph Lauren for the special occasion.
Ahead of her star-studded nuptials, a source exclusively told Us Weekly that Gomez was planning to quickly share photos of her look via social media, to ensure that she would be the “first” with the grand reveal.
“She wants to be the first one to post her bridal look before she walks down the aisle and doesn’t want it ruined by paps/drones, etc.,” the insider said.
Because Gomez was keeping her wedding so private, longtime BFF Taylor Swift and her Only Murders in the Building costars Paul Rudd, Steve Martin and Martin Short, didn’t even know the exact locations “for the rehearsal or the wedding” until the day of her nuptials.
Instead, the couple planned for guests to be picked up and transported directly to the venue via shuttle buses. Vogue later reported that their wedding was held at Sea Crest Nursery in Eastern Goleta Valley, California.
After tying the knot, a source told Us that Gomez was the ultimate blushing bride.
“Selena had nerves before doing her first look with Benny, but from that moment on, she was radiating joy,” the insider shared. “You could tell how happy she was, and she did not stop smiling or crying tears of joy the entire day.”
The source added that after her wedding wrapped, Gomez “kept saying this was the best weekend and day of her life and how much it meant that everyone was there for them.”
