Selena Gomez Recalls Moment She Made Taylor Swift and Her Mom Cry

Selena Gomez is opening up about a special moment she experienced with her longtime pal Taylor Swift during their friendship.

During an interview with iHeartRadio shared via social media on Thursday, March 27, Gomez, 32, recalled the time she played Swift, 35, her then-unreleased hit song, “Lose You to Love Me,” which was released in 2019.

“When I played her ‘Lose You to Love Me,’ right before it came out, she and her amazing mom [Andrea Swift] started to cry and then I started crying,” Gomez said. “You know, it’s very sweet.”

In “Lose You to Love Me”, Gomez sings about reclaiming herself after the end of a relationship that was no longer serving her, with many fans speculating it to be about her romance with Justin Bieber. Gomez and Bieber had an on-again, off-again relationship between 2010 and 2018, before he ultimately married Hailey Bieber and she moved on with Benny Blanco.

Four years after dropping her emotional track “Lose You to Love Me,” Selena Gomez is revisiting the song in a raw video. “Making of … me getting to know myself,” the singer, 30, wrote in a TikTok video shared on Monday, July 17. Gomez went on to preemptively address criticism of her voice, writing: “This […]

With Swift the brains behind some of the biggest songs in the world, it’s no surprise Gomez holds the “Bad Blood” singer’s opinions of her music in high regard.

“I value her opinion so much, because she’s super honest. It’s very helpful, and I love people who are honest,” Gomez said.

During the interview, she also described Swift’s recent shoutout to her following the release of Gomez and Blanco’s collaboration album, I Said I Loved You First, as “sweet.”

“I LOVE THIS ALBUM SO MUCH OH MY GODDDDDDDDDDDD.” Swift wrote via her Instagram Stories upon the album’s release earlier this month.

The album also features the song “Younger and Hotter Than Me,” which fans believe may be a nod to Swift.

“For thinkin’ you were different / Wish I never loved you,” the lyrics read. “We’re not gettin’ any younger / But your girlfriends seem to.”

Eagle-eyed fans pointed out the similarities between the lyrics and words from one of Swift’s famous songs, “All Too Well.”

“And I was never good at tellin’ jokes, but the punch line goes / ‘I’ll get older, but your lovers stay my age,’” Swift sings on the 10-minute version of “All Too Well,” a track widely rumored to be about Swift’s brief age-gap fling with Jake Gyllenhaal. (The lengthy version of the Red song dropped in 2021 on its rerecorded album.)

Gomez and Swift initially met in 2008 while dating brothers Nick Jonas and Joe Jonas, respectively.

“I knew from when I met [Selena] I would always have her back,” Swift told The Wall Street Journal in 2020. “In my life, I have the ability to forgive people who have hurt me. But I don’t know if I can forgive someone who hurts her.”
