Selena Gomez Hints She’s Working on New Music After Engagement
Is Selena Gomez back in her pop star era? Signs are pointing to yes.
Gomez, 32, shared a video via her Instagram Story on Wednesday, January 22, that showed her wearing large headphones in what appeared to be a home recording studio. The clip began with the camera facing Gomez before she turned the focus onto a computer monitor. She covered the screen with a red heart emoji.
As Gomez panned the camera once again, her eyes got wide with excitement. Large speakers and a keyboard could be seen in the background.
It’s been nearly a year since Gomez has released new music. She dropped the single “Love On” in February 2024 following her 2023 hits “Single Soon” and “Calm Down,” a collaboration with Rema.
Earlier this month, producer Benny Blanco hinted that he was cooking up something new in the studio with Gomez, his now-fiancée, while replying to a fan who asked Blanco, 36, to “make some new songs for our queen.”
In Blanco’s TikTok video, uploaded January 17, Gomez adjusted a microphone as she sat on a couch. She smiled as Blanco approached and playfully said, “Hi.”
This wouldn’t be the first time the couple — who announced their engagement in December 2024 — have teamed up in the studio. Blanco coproduced “Same Old Love” and “Kill Em With Kindness” from Gomez’s 2015 album, Revival, and was also a collaborator on “Single Soon.”
Gomez previously opened up about her future in the music business during a 2024 appearance on the “SmartLess” podcast. “The older I get, the more I’m kind of like, ‘I would like to find something to just settle on,’” she admitted at the time. “I do feel like I have one more album in me, but I would probably choose acting.”
When podcast cohosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett reminded Gomez that she didn’t need to choose between the two passions, she replied, “You’re right, but I am going to want to chill, because I’m tired.”
Gomez has been leaning into acting thanks to the success of the Hulu series Only Murders in the Building, which premiered in 2021. She’s earned widespread praise for her role as Mabel Mora, garnering multiple Golden Globe nominations. Last year, she was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series at the Emmy Awards.
Along with her hit TV show, Gomez sparked conversation with her performance in the movie Emilia Pérez, which also stars Zoe Saldaña and Karla Sofía Gascón. The film earned 10 nods at the 2025 Golden Globes, becoming the most-nominated comedy or musical movie in the awards show’s history. Emilia Pérez won a total of four trophies at the ceremony earlier this month, including Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy.
