Ryan Reynolds jokingly referenced the ongoing It Ends With Us legal battle between he and wife, Blake Lively, and the film’s director, Justin Baldoni.
During a star-studded Q&A segment with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler at the SNL 50 Anniversary Special, which took place in New York City on Sunday, February 16, Reynolds, 48, poked fun at the highly publicized legal proceedings that have played out since December 2024. (Lively, 37, filed a lawsuit against her It Ends With Us costar and director, 41, on December 20, accusing him of sexual harassment and allegedly attempting to destroy her reputation.)
Asked by Fey, 54, and Poehler, 53, how he was doing, Reynolds responded, “[I’m doing] great. Why, what have you heard?”
Lively, who was seated beside Reynolds during the chat, maintained a blank expression as members of the crowd shared (a somewhat awkward) laugh at the actor’s expense.
Fey and Poehler didn’t press the topic any further, returning to the task of fielding audience questions about the history of Saturday Night Live.
Reynolds and Lively, who have been married since 2012 and share four children, walked the red carpet together at the event, with the Deadpool & Wolverine actor dressed in a classic suit as Lively donned a metallic gown with embroidered 3D flowers.
The couple have been involved in a legal battle with Baldoni after Lively’s December filing accused the actor and his production company Wayfarer Studios of misconduct, in addition to accusing Baldoni of fostering a “hostile work environment” and allegedly trying to destroy her reputation.
Baldoni has repeatedly denied the allegations, and, in January, filed his own $400 million defamation lawsuit against both Lively, Reynolds and Lively’s publicist Leslie Sloane. Baldoni is seeking damages after accusing the trio of civil extortion, defamation, false light invasion of privacy and additional claims.
Lively’s legal team told Us Weekly at the time that Baldoni’s filing was an attempt to twist the so-called narrative. “The strategy of attacking the woman is desperate, it does not refute the evidence in Ms. Lively’s complaint, and it will fail,” her attorneys said in January.
A trial is currently scheduled to begin in 2026. Earlier this month, Lively and Baldoni’s respective camps rejected settling the dispute in mediation.
Reynolds has stuck by his wife throughout every twist and turn of the ongoing saga, recently taking to Instagram to share a selfie of him and Lively visiting the UK. On February 3, Reynolds included the snap while showing off photos from his recent trip to Wrexham, the home of Reynolds’ professional football club, of which he owns with fellow actor Rob McElhenney.
The loved-up post was set to “Only Wanna Be With You” by Hootie & The Blowfish.
