Rob Lowe Reacts to Being Golden Bachelorette Joan’s Celebrity Crush
Joan Vassos found The One on The Golden Bachelorette, but she’d give it all up for Rob Lowe.
Earlier this year, Joan, 61, recalled her experience as an extra in the movie St. Elmo’s Fire, revealing on an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! that she’s had “a huge celebrity crush” on Rob, 60, ever since.
“Would you trade in whoever you selected on The Golden Bachelor[ette] for Rob Lowe?” Jimmy Kimmel asked, to which Joan quickly responded, “In one second.”
As the audience erupted into applause, Joan shrugged and teased, “Can you blame me?”
Rob shared a clip of the interview via Instagram on Wednesday, November 13, while gearing up for The Golden Bachelorette‘s season finale. In the video, Rob’s jaw dropped before he said, “I could be the Golden Bachelor.”
The actor went on to joke, “That’s better than a Golden Globe I think.”
Rob has been married to Sheryl Berkoff since 1991, a fact she happily reminded his Instagram followers of in the comments section. “He is taken 🥰,” she wrote.
The couple share sons Matthew, 31, and John Owen, 29. Rob’s younger son issued a playful warning about the video, commenting, “You gotta chill out man.”
During her Kimmel appearance, Joan noted that Rob was “aware” of her crush thanks to an interview she did with Entertainment Tonight. The same outlet later found Rob on a red carpet and asked whether he had any advice to share with Joan before her journey to find love on reality TV.
“Somebody that makes you laugh. That answer is not only true; it’s also very safe,” he responded.
Fans met Joan during season 1 of The Golden Bachelor, which aired in last fall. She connected with lead Gerry Turner early on but eventually sent herself home from the experience early to be with her daughter, who recently had a baby. Joan was announced as the first Golden Bachelorette in May, and her season began airing in September.
During Wednesday’s finale, she accepted a proposal from front-runner Chock Chapple. “From our first date in Disneyland, I thought I saw a future with you and it’s the first time I pictured a future with anybody else in a really long time,” she said before he got down on one knee. (Joan was previously married to late husband John for 32 years before his death in 2021.)
The happy couple will celebrate their engagement in Los Angeles before making the move to New York City.
“We both love the energy in the city and love that there’s always something to do,” Joan exclusively revealed to Us Weekly in the pair’s first interview as a couple. “We just wanna go out and walk and experience life — go to fun restaurants and [experience the] culture. We both have friends there. We’re gonna be there during the holidays, which is the best time ever in New York City. I think it’s just a really different life than either one of us have ever lived.”
Chock, 61, added that he and Joan are ready to “navigate” their next chapter in a way that includes both their families. “We’re willing to spend time at each person’s hometown. We’re gonna spend a lot of time in New York City,” he said. “We’re gonna get on with our lives.”
