Pedro Pascal Joins the Marvel Universe in The Fantastic Four Trailer

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s newest team is ready to take off.

Marvel debuted its first look at Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm/The Human Torch and Ben Grimm/The Thing, respectively, in The Fantastic Four: First Steps on Tuesday, February 3.

In the official trailer, the team is having Sunday dinner together while reflecting on how far they’ve come. Reed brings up how the group lived before they got their powers, to which Sue later adds, “Whatever life throws on us, we’ll face it together. As a family.”

The sneak peek is a first for the franchise in that it sets up a new retro style while being set in the 1960s, which is different from previous Fantastic Four films that were set in modern times.

Marvel Studios has assembled a fantastic cast for its next superhero team. In February 2024, Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby were confirmed to be leading Marvel’s The Fantastic Four movie as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic and Sue Storm/the Invisible Woman, respectively. Completing the film’s titular quartet are Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/the Human Torch and Ebon […]

Marvel Studios teased the trailer’s premiere one day prior with a clip of children running to watch the team embark on a mission in a TV store window. “The Future Foundation invites you to take your first steps into a fantastic new era,” read the social media clip’s caption. “Launch coverage begins at 7AM ET | 4AM PT.”

Along with the clip, the studio debuted a new poster for the film featuring a button with the team members’ last names bordering a No. 4 in the center. “PREPARE 4 LAUNCH,” read the poster’s caption.

Casting for the film’s main quartet was announced on Valentine’s Day in February 2024. “Happy Valentine’s Day from Marvel’s First Family!” Marvel captioned a poster featuring illustrated versions of the characters in vintage super suits via Instagram. “Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn are The Fantastic Four.”

One week later, Moss-Bachrach, 47, revealed that Pascal, 49, had already created a “group text” for the film’s four main stars. “I have [Pedro’s] number, so it says ‘Pedro Pascal’, and then there’s two +44 [the U.K. country code] numbers,” The Bear actor shared on a February 2024 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! before joking, “I don’t know which one’s Vanessa and which one is Joseph.”

The film’s official title was confirmed as The Fantastic Four: First Steps at San Diego Comic-Con that July. Directed by Matt Shakman, the film’s other cast members include Julia Garner as Shalla-Bal/The Silver Surfer, Ralph Ineson as Galactus, Natasha Lyonne, Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich and Sarah Niles.

The film marks the third time the superhero team has been adapted for the big screen. Chris Evans made his Marvel debut as Johnny Storm in 2005’s Fantastic Four and its 2007 sequel, Rise of the Silver Surfer, alongside Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba and Michael Chiklis. Evans, 43, briefly returned as The Human Torch for a hilarious cameo in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine.

Michael B. Jordan took over the role for the franchise’s 2015 reboot, which also starred Miles Teller, Kate Mara and Jamie Bell.

Disney acquired the film rights to The Fantastic Four, X-Men and other Marvel characters with the purchase of 21st Century Fox in 2019, allowing the superheroes to join the likes of The Avengers on the big screen. John Krasinski is the first actor to portray Reed Richards in the Disney-owned MCU, appearing briefly as an alternate version of Mister Fantastic in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps hit theaters on July 25.
