Nicole Kidman Channels Carrie Bradshaw in Dolce and Gabbana
Nicole Kidman has walked many a red carpet during her career, and for this year’s Gotham Awards, she took it one step further in a dress with a legendary and stylish history of its own.
The archival 1998 Dolce & Gabbana dress made a memorable appearance on stage in New York City when Whitney Houston chose it for a performance of her “My Love Is Your Love” tour.
In 2021, Sarah Jessica Parker and Heidi Klum both wore the same dress in Sex and the City.
In the episode, Carrie (Parker) is asked to participate in a New York fashion show that combines real models (Klum makes a cameo) with ordinary stylish people on the Manhattan media circuit.
At a pre-show fitting, Carrie tries on a floral maxi dress, but it’s about “four feet” too long, so the designers give it to Klum, who won’t require alterations.
Fittingly, the same could be said for Kidman, who at 5 feet and 11 inches, stands two inches taller than Klum. The Australian-born actress famously wore sample-size designer clothes for much of her career because they were stylish, but more importantly, they fit her waif-like figure.
It’s no wonder then that Kidman flaunted her more curvaceous shape on Monday’s red carpet. In trompe-l’œil florals, she turned heads coming and going, thanks to a fitted bodice that highlights her décolletage. The satin column skimmed her figure and pooled into a train that cascaded behind her as she made her way past photographers on the way to the ceremony.
The actress paired it with a glittering Tyler Ellis clutch and Christian Louboutin pumps that made her legs look even longer. Meanwhile, her glam was nothing short of a modern-day bombshell.
She rocked bent waves, wine-red lipstick and highlighter. Moody black nail polish completed the ’90s statement, which on the preternaturally ageless Kidman, looked fresh on the red carpet.
