NFL’s James Jones Accuses Cowboys’ Dak Prescott of ‘Quitting’ on Team

Former NFL wide receiver James Jones came down hard on Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, accusing him of “quitting” on his team with his recent injury. 

Prescott, 31, suffered a hamstring injury during the third quarter of the Cowboys’ game against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, November 3. It was reported on Monday, November 3 that the star quarterback will miss “multiple weeks” of action. 

“My man is quitting on these dudes,” Jones, 40, said Wednesday, November 5 on FS1’s The Facility. “I’ve had a hamstring plenty of times. I’m back the next week … It don’t take 4 weeks for you to heal from no hamstring.”

Jones — who retired in 2017 after 9 seasons in the NFL, 8 of those with the Green Bay Packers — argued Prescott’s style of play should make it even easier for him to return to the field. 

“You’re not Lamar Jackson,” Jones continued. “You’re not Jalen Hurts. You’re not running. Where are you running to? You’re not running. 4 weeks! Basically, put me on ice for 4 weeks. No fight, no nothing.”

He added, “This is a hamstring for a quarterback that’s not explosive at the quarterback spot.”

Jones bolstered his argument by referencing a viral moment from Sunday’s game, where Prescott was caught on camera saying “we f—ing suck” moments before his injury.

“Dak is quitting on these boys,” Jones said. “Is it off the bone or something? Because there’s no way that you’re telling me that you’re out 4 weeks with no answers, no nothing, no fight. For a hamstring? And you’re a quarterback. There ain’t no way.”

Jones urged Prescott to fight through the injury, saying, “Your hamstring don’t got to be one-hundred percent at the quarterback spot.”

“We know!” Jones said passionately. “We’ve been in the facility. We know when dudes are hurt and really can’t go. And we know when dudes are messing around.”

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said the team is still evaluating Prescott’s injury and the quarterback will get a second medical opinion to confirm treatment options. Depending on the severity of the injury, the team may be forced to place Prescott on injured reserve, which means he would miss four games minimum. 

“Once he figures out where he’s at, those are conversations that’ll probably happen here over the course of this week,” McCarthy, 60, told reporters on Monday.

The Cowboys return to action Sunday, November 10 against the Philadelphia Eagles. Backup quarterback Cooper Rush will get the start in Prescott’s absence.
