Netflix Will Lose This Fan-Favorite CW Show Soon — Where You Can Stream It
After an impressive twelve-year tenure, one of the most iconic shows in television history is finally leaving Netflix.
Supernatural became a massive hit for the platform when it debuted there back in 2013, bolstered by the show’s massively passionate fanbase. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and Supernatural will bow out from the Netflix library on Wednesday, December 17.
However, fans need not worry, as Watch With Us has found out that the show will gain a new life elsewhere.
Read on to find out everything there is to know about where Supernatural will be streaming next.
Why Is ‘Supernatural’ Leaving Netflix?
Supernatural is leaving Netflix for the simple reason that the show’s original channel, the CW, opted not to renew its contract with Netflix. In 2011, the CW and Netflix signed a prosperous deal under which all current and future shows would stream exclusively on the platform.
Thus, for almost fifteen years, Netflix has been the home to the channel’s library of programming. And while they renewed the contract in 2016, they chose not to upon renewal time three years later.
Instead, the CW is planning to move its content and branch out from Netflix.
Where Can I Stream ‘Supernatural’ After It Leaves Netflix?
While Supernatural departs from Netflix on Wednesday, December 17, fans will not need to wait long until the show has a new home. In fact, by the time Supernatural leaves Netflix, all fifteen seasons will have already been streaming on Amazon Prime Video since December 1.
In addition to Prime Video, Peacock will also take up the mantel of hosting Supernatural, with the entire show becoming available on Monday, December 22.
What Is ‘Supernatural’ About?
Supernatural is an epic genre-bending show that follows the adventures of Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles), two brothers who hunt down supernatural entities across the United States. The first season sees the two of them reuniting and going on the road as they try to track down their missing father, and eventually face off with the demon Azazel (Misha Collins). The show is inspired by folklore, urban legends and mythology, while exploring Christian theology as well.
Why Is ‘Supernatural’ So Popular?
Supernatural has a huge, loyal fanbase for a reason. The show is richly written with compelling narratives and unforgettable side characters, as well as iconic performances from Padalecki, Ackles and Collins. With strong character development, world-building, core chemistry between Sam and Dean and a unique hybrid of horror, comedy and drama, Supernatural was able to transcend its initial status as a “monster of the week” show and become something much deeper and more complex.
Are Any Other CW Shows Leaving Netflix?
Unfortunately, a couple more CW shows will be leaving the platform alongside Supernatural in December. This includes the sci-fi series The 100 and the DC comics superhero show Arrow. And while Supernatural has its next home booked in two places, the fate of these other two CW shows is currently up in the air. Hopefully, a platform like HBO Max or Prime Video will scoop them up.
