NCIS: Origins Midseason Finale Questions Gibbs’ NIS Future Amid Move

Gibbs’ future at NIS is left up in the air as his future wife Diane asks him to move to Los Angeles with her in the NCIS: Origins midseason finale.

In Us Weekly‘s exclusive clip from the season 2 episode airing on Tuesday, December 9, Gibbs (Austin Stowell) prepares to leave for work when Diane (Kathleen Kenny) comes over with good news.

“I got the job. I never thought they would hire me on the spot,” she tells Gibbs. “I mean, it is just glorified assistant stuff to start, but they are going to pay for my CPA course. This time next year, I will be a full-blooded accountant.”

Diane acknowledges one possible issue. “I really see [it] as a feature,” she notes. “It is for their L.A office. I knew you wouldn’t know what to say, but you don’t have to say anything. Just move with me.”

The NCIS: Origins season 1 finale seemingly killed a main character, introduced a new character from Gibbs’ future and potentially added fuel to an Us fan theory. During the Monday, April 28, finale of the hit CBS series, Gibbs’ (Austin Stowell) connection to Pedro Hernandez’s death was investigated by Lala’s (Mariel Molino) friend Macy (Claire […]

According to the official synopsis, Gibbs “grapples with his growing feelings for Lala vs. his relationship with Diane, who wants him to move to L.A., creating significant personal tension as the season finale approaches.”

NCIS: Origins fans are in for a wild ride as Gibbs’ personal life gets more complicated. Season 1, which premiered in April, seemingly revealed his love interest and coworker Lala (Mariel Molino) was dead after a horrific car accident. Lala was on her way to Gibbs’ house when she swerved to avoid hitting a girl in the street. The car flipped over multiple times, which made viewers think Lala died on the spot.

The season 2 premiere, however, brought Lala back just when Gibbs was figuring out his feelings for Diane. Fans who are familiar with Mark Harmon’s version of Gibbs from the original NCIS are aware he had a total of four wives — Shannon, Diane, Rebecca and Stephanie — and the prequel planned to stick to canon.

“We always approach these things — as they seem like huge challenges — how we’re going to write that into the tapestry of our story,” creator Gina Lucita Monreal told Us in April. “But it always ends up being a plus somehow in the end figuring out how to weave these stories together. So we’re really excited to delve into this one as well.”

NCIS has been on the air since 2003 – and the fan favorite drama is still going strong. The CBS series follows a group of special agents from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service as they investigate various different crimes. NCIS season 1 began with lead actors Mark Harmon, Sasha Alexander, Michael Weatherly, Pauley Perrette and […]

Molino, 32, recently teased how Gibbs and Lala’s relationship could continue to be explored despite him meeting his next wife.

“Even though we can’t play out this love, we can play out the subtleties of wanting someone and how that affects you in every aspect of your life, through work, in your career [and] in your personal life,” Molino shared with Us in October. “You just want to prove them wrong or make them proud.”

She continued: “The writers are doing the best possible scenario of this and our relationship. … As much as he has incredible feelings for Lala, he’s trying to protect his heart from the thought of losing her again. It’s [him] just not wanting to open up his heart again just to have it ripped out again.”

NCIS: Origins airs on CBS Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET.
