‘Mormon Wives’ Star Dakota Mortensen Addresses His Sobriety After Reunion
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Dakota Mortensen is addressing his behavior at the season 3 reunion.
“Obviously, the reunion thing was a s*** show. I think more whenever I see videos circulating of me claiming that I’m high or I relapsed,” Dakota, 32, shared via Instagram on Tuesday, December 9. “There’s very few things that I feel proud of when it comes to myself, and I think one of those is being Ever’s dad and my recovery.”
As part of Hulu’s reality show, cameras have documented Dakota’s up-and-down relationship with Taylor Frankie Paul as they navigate raising their 20-month-old son following their 2024 split.
During the season 3 reunion show, which premiered on Hulu December 4, Dakota was put in the hot seat when Taylor, 31, and her parents confronted him over an alleged inappropriate relationship with a family friend.
“For me, I am proud of myself because I have stayed sober through some of the most hardest s*** I’ve ever been through in my entire life. Even in that situation or that setting,” he explained on Tuesday. “That is why it’s so hard on me. I am actually facing a lot of those situations and settings sober for the first time ever in my life.”
Dakota acknowledged some of his critics online while explaining some of his recent behavior.
“My body is in full fight or flight mode the entire time,” he said. “I’ve been sober this whole time and apparently, to everybody else in the world, I’m not, and honestly, it hurts.”
In his latest video, the real estate agent also addressed some of the rumors spreading online about his appearance on the season 3 reunion.
He denied having the power to remove the ladies from the stage when he filmed. Dakota also said he had no idea Taylor’s parents were going to be in attendance to film a segment with him.
“That’s called ‘blindside, blindside, blindside, blindside.’ I didn’t even want that,” he said on Tuesday. “I didn’t even want to go. I also had a cease and desist so when you see me stuttering trying to explain stuff, my bad. I’ve never had one of those in my life. I’m petrified. I don’t know s***. I’m sitting here, scared to death to say anything.”
It’s unclear who sent Dakota the cease and desist and for what reason.
Soon after sharing his video online, Dakota received some support from the DadTok community.
“Proud of you brother!” Zac Affleck wrote in the comments section. “Nobody realizes how hard this s*** is to navigate, how unnatural it is and apparently these trolls on social media have never made a mistake in their life 😂🤷♂️.”
Chase McWhorter added, “You’ve overcame one of the hardest things possible. Glad you’re proud of that, and appreciate how you’ve been with me and my struggles w substances. You the man.”
Before signing off from his latest video, Dakota wanted to thank the viewers who are offering support instead of judgment. He also promised to never be a bully to anyone going through a difficult time.
“I’m super thankful for all the people that checked in on me and made sure that I was OK and didn’t continue to just be bullies,” he said. “I hope you guys never go through something really hard because I promise you I will never actually do what you guys have done to me, ever. When you’re down, I’m not going to s*** on you when you’re down even if I don’t like you.”
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is streaming now on Hulu.
