Montana Jordan Reassures Fans About Georgie, Mandy’s Future Amid Concern
Montana Jordan knows there are concerns that Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is setting the main couple up for failure — but he doesn’t see it that way.
“We all know there’s an inevitable breakup in the future. As the title says [this is] the first marriage,” Jordan, 21, exclusively told Us Weekly. “But whether we know [about] the second marriage or third marriage [is a different story].”
Jordan noted that Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage has leaned into the unknown.
“The story line is that Georgie gets married and divorced, like, two or three times. But we don’t know past that. We don’t know if it’s with Mandy or with somebody else,” he said. “We have no idea. As an actor in the show, I have no idea. I don’t even know if the writers do. We’re all just going with the flow and seeing what people like.”
Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage picks up where Young Sheldon left off with the main couple. After meeting during season 5 of The Big Bang Theory prequel, Georgie, who was 17 at the time, lied that he was 21, while 29-year-old Mandy (Emily Osment) pretended to be 25. Georgie and Mandy ultimately came clean — and then realized that they were expecting their first baby.
The first season of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is set three months after the events of the Young Sheldon finale, which wrapped up earlier this year.
“We didn’t want to take away from the ending of Young Sheldon,” Jordan recalled. “For seven years we were on Young Sheldon, and we didn’t want to just short America by just getting rid of it and going to this new show. So we took our time and finished filming that.”
Moving on to Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage meant addressing some major questions. According to past episodes of The Big Bang Theory, fans know Georgie had two ex-wives. There was also a mention of him ultimately running the largest tire-selling chain in Texas, but it was his personal life that made viewers concerned about whether Georgie and Mandy would go the distance.
There is also their age gap, which has concerned some audience members.
“It gives Georgie somewhere to go,” Jordan noted to Us. “In this new show, Georgie finally gets to show that he’s not just this dumb kid. He actually does have a brain on him. And on Young Sheldon, I’m sure he got overlooked a lot. Maybe him being the tire king is his way of showing and proving people that he is not this dumb kid [but a mature adult]. He actually has some brains on him.”
While promoting the upcoming series, Jordan gave a shout-out to his costar who was by his side as they made the transition to leading their own show.
“Even just in real life, the way that we clicked and we always got along. [Emily] is so professional and good at what she does,” he told Us. “We’ve always had a good chemistry and always gotten along. It shows on the TV and I think people enjoy it.”
Jordan expressed his excitement at having a built-in fan base while still capturing the attention of new viewers, adding, “You can watch Young Sheldon without knowing anything about The Big Bang Theory. And I believe you can watch this new show without watching Young Sheldon. It’s a new start. We’re starting a new thing and you get to follow Georgie and Mandy as they go through all these trials and errors in life. It’s a very relatable topic and everybody knows about it and it’s not a secret.”
Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage premieres on CBS Thursday, October 17, at 8 p.m. ET with new episodes being released every week.
