MGM Heiress Ruby Kemper Reveals Inside Details of Paris’ Elite Le Bal
Ruby Kemper, the daughter of Ross and Linda Kemper (who is the heiress of MGM Studios owner Kirk Kerkorian), recently made her debut to society and she let Us Weekly in on how the glamorous night went.
Kemper, 20, who was presented at the ultra-exclusive, extravagant Le Bal des Débutantes on Saturday, November 29, told Us that she’s dreamed of this day since her older sister, Tess, debuted 10 years ago.
“I remember my sister doing it when I was 10 years old. And every single time I would see the ball, every year, I would just dream about what my night would be like,” Kemper said. “It’s also such an important event to me because we support children’s hospitals and ARCFA, which is children’s health and research for cardiology. I just think giving back is so important to me and when I received this invitation, I knew that it was also for a good cause. So not only is it for a good cause, but it’s also so exciting for me and for my family, and just a new way to meet new people and girls that are similar to you from all over the world.”
Kemper told Us that despite coming from a well-known family, she didn’t feel pressure from them to participate, rather she wanted to do it for herself.
“No one in my family put pressure on me. It was more so for me, which is so amazing,” Kemper said. “My family is so proud of me, and I’m so lucky to have such an amazing support system. It’s important for me to keep my name held high to the standard that it is, so I want to represent my family as well. I feel that it is so special and so important to myself and to people that are watching, and there is a standard that I feel I want to accomplish.”
The Cornell University student told Us that Le Bal, which began in 1958 and was revived by Ophélie Renouard in 1992, is less Bridgerton-esque than people may think.
“I think what’s so cool about it now is that you’re kind of presenting yourself to the world and showing that this is who I am, this is who my family is, and we’ve accomplished so much, and it’s celebrating that which is so amazing,” Kemper said. “It’s not necessarily just for you to get married, which is not, you know, the world we live in anymore. It’s simply for the girls.”
Kemper was presented along with 18 other girls from various well-known families, such as Angela Bassett and Courtney B. Vance‘s daughter, Bronwyn, Spanish royal Princess Eulalia de Orléans-Borbon and Lady Araminta Spencer-Churchill, a relative of Winston Churchill and cousin of Princess Diana.
“Backstage it’s all about the kind of the shine, the jewelry, the makeup, the hair, you’re all getting ready together,” Kemper said. “In that space, you realize that we’re all just being ourselves between all like the picture perfect, perfection that you see online.”
“It was so easy with them. Even though you’ve never met them, and they have such a different background than you, and they’re from all over the world, you immediately [have] so much to talk about and connect,” Kemper continued.
Kemper wore a custom Chrome Hearts dress that she collaborated on with founders Richard and Laurie Stark and their daughter Frankie.
“I never hesitated choosing Chrome Hearts, even though it was a bit unexpected for this type of event,” Kemper told Us. “I had a vision of what I wanted, which was sleek and lacy. Their iconic kind of Chrome Hearts symbol all over the dress. But I didn’t want it to be so in your face. That’s not who I am. And it would be black and, you know, a bit of a grungier look. I feel I’m a bit lighter than that. I told them exactly what I wanted, and Frankie sent me a sketch, and I fell in love with it.”
“I went to the factory in Los Angeles, and she showed me a bit of a piece of fabric, and I said I loved it. So she took a small piece of fabric to a sketch, and I fell in love with it immediately. And then it started getting made. There were barely any changes. She genuinely made my dream dress come to life and what I wanted, and she’s so talented in that way, and it was incredible,” Kemper continued.
Her outfit was completed with Christian Louboutin heels and a 40-carat paraiba tourmaline necklace from V Muse, who was one of the sponsors of the event. Kemper opened up to Us about how V Muse founder, Alex Fan, specifically brought out the stunning necklace to accompany her dress.
“[Alex] presented it to me and put it on and it was the most amazing, most beautiful, incredible piece of jewelry I’ve ever worn,” Kemper said. “It [is] the biggest one in the world. It’s over 40 carats. And [Alex] is just so wonderful and so kind. And I knew instantly I fell in love with it and that it would tie perfectly with my dress.”
Kemper was escorted by Gabriel Gledhill, a skier from Great Britain, who is currently training for the 2026 Winter Olympics.
“He was incredible, such a gentleman,” she told Us.
During the festivities, the debs walk in with their cavaliers, then they are formally presented by a speaker, who reads a bio about them. They walk around the room as they get photographed and then they tuck off to a back room to take more photos, chat amongst themselves and have their “own little party,” while their families eat dinner. They then do a waltz later in the evening with their fathers. Kemper said as it got later into the night, she and many of the other girls took off their shoes and hit the dance floor.
“I took [off] my Louboutins [and] I had them in my hand. I was just having the best time when we were all dancing,” Kemper told Us. “It was so much fun. If you look at the pictures, it’s just like pure, genuine smiles all over.”
