Melissa Rivers and Fiance Steve Mitchel Are Married

Melissa Rivers and her fiancé, Steve Mitchel, are officially husband and wife.

Rivers, 57, and Mitchel exchanged vows on Saturday, March 15, in an intimate ceremony held at the Four Seasons in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, according to People.

Getting engaged nearly two years ago, Rivers almost postponed their wedding after the Los Angeles wildfires in January. (Rivers lost her California home in the natural disaster that devastated thousands of acres.)

“We were going to cancel,” Rivers told People in an interview published on Thursday, March 20. “I was tapping out, like ‘I just can’t do this.’ And that’s when my friends stepped in and said, ‘We are doing this’ because a number of people who are coming lost their homes too, and they were like, ‘Thank God we have this to look forward to.’”

She added, “I also knew that we were all going to want to go away for a weekend to get out of all this chaos and rest our brains. They told me, ‘We need to be around you too.’ They really stepped up and helped with the rest of the planning. Just to be able to be with all of my friends, all at the same time … it’s really something that I needed at a time in my life where everything felt like it had been taken away again.”

Melissa, the daughter of the late Joan Rivers, and Mitchel said “I do” in front of their friends and her 24-year-old son, Cooper. (Melissa shares Cooper with ex-husband John Endicott.)

According to People, the couple chose a venue in Wyoming nearby where Melissa used to vacation with Joan, who died in 2014 at age 81.

Us Weekly confirmed in November 2023 that Mitchel had proposed after nearly two years of dating.

“Melissa Rivers is thrilled to announce her engagement to her boyfriend of over a year and a half, Steve Mitchel,” Melissa’s rep told Us in a statement at the time. “[Steve] proposed last month on a beach in Mexico. The couple is enjoying being engaged and are in total bliss!”

Melissa and Mitchel initially met at an event in support of the Didi Hirsch Mental Health and Suicide Prevention nonprofit, of which Melissa is a board member.

The Fashion Police alum later told Us Weekly that her nuptials would feature nods to the late Joan.

“There’ll always be little touches and this and that and the other,” Melissa exclusively told Us in September 2024. “Everything is little touches of hers, especially being an only child and a daughter.”
