Martin Short Admires Selena Gomez’s Engagement Ring at Golden Globes
Martin Short couldn’t help but marvel at Selena Gomez’s engagement ring at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards.
According to social media footage shared by E! News on Sunday, January 5, Short, 74, sat next to Gomez, 32, at the awards show. While the Only Murders in the Building costars chatted at their table, Short held Gomez’s hand and twirled her sparkler.
As Short admired Gomez’s accessory, the pair continued to talk. As they conversed, Martin continued to play with the band.
Gomez, Short and Steve Martin attended the Golden Globes on Sunday as OMTIB was up for four awards. All three stars received individual nominations while the Hulu series was up for Best Television Series, Musical or Comedy. OMITB ultimately lost to Hacks while Gomez, Short and Martin also did not take home the trophy in their respective categories.
For the occasion, Gomez was accompanied by her fiancé, Benny Blanco, as her date. Gomez donned a baby blue gown that she accessorized with diamond jewels. Blanco, 36, looked dashing in an all-white suit. While Gomez walked the red carpet solo, Blanco remained by her side throughout the duration of the live show.
During host Nikki Glaser’s monologue, she poked fun at Blanco and Gomez’s recent engagement.
“Benny Blanco is here because of the genie who granted him that wish,” Glaser, 40, joked. “Man, lucky guy.”
Gomez and Blanco announced their engagement in December 2024, one year after they publicly revealed their romance. “Forever begins now..,” the actress captioned an Instagram post featuring photos of her ring and the pair celebrating their impending nuptials.
“Hey wait… that’s my wife,” Blanco commented on Gomez’s post at the time.
Gomez later took to social media to gush over her ring and show it off.
“I’ve just dreamed of this moment my whole life,” she wrote alongside a snap of the rock glistening in the sun.
Gomez’s sparkler features an elongated diamond set on a gold band adorned with more rock. According to Jared Jewelers expert and VP of Merchandising Ann Grimmett, the band is estimated to be six carats and worth $225,000. Grimmett also told Us Weekly that the ring was “rare, given less than five percent of diamonds are marquise.”
The ring’s designers, Katherine Theofilos Claster and Stephanie Theofilos, shared what it was like working with Blanco to create the custom jewel for his bride-to-be.
“We started the project earlier this year. Benny, a wonderful creative himself, had [a] specific inspiration, including the center cut, the marquise,” Theofilos said in a December 2024 interview with Page Six. “Benny had a very sharp idea of what he ultimately envisioned.”
