Mark Sanchez’s Wife Supports Husband Publicly for 1st Time Since Arrest
Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez posted a message of gratitude directed at his wife and kids via Instagram, and his wife, Perry Mattfeld, responded in her first public show of support since his October arrest.
“This time of year always makes me look around and appreciate what matters, but this one hits different,” wrote Sanchez, 39, in the caption of his Friday, December 5, post. “I’m just grateful — to wake up, to be home, and to be able to wrap my arms around my wife and kids.”
Mattfeld, 31, added the heart hands emoji to the comments section of the post, which showed her and the couple’s two kids. The pair welcomed twin girls in March and have chosen to keep their names private. Sanchez also shares 8-year-old son Daniel with ex-girlfriend and model Bobby T.
“Thank you to the people who kept me standing and gave my family opportunities to share moments like these,” Sanchez continued. “From our family to yours, we wish you a happy and peaceful holiday season.”
Sanchez was arrested in Indianapolis on October 4 after a confrontation with a delivery driver named Perry Tole that resulted in Sanchez being stabbed multiple times. Both were treated at a local hospital, and Sanchez was hit with misdemeanor charges of battery resulting in injury, public intoxication and unlawful entry of a motor vehicle. Prosecutors later added a felony 5 charge that carries a potential penalty of one to five years in prison.
The former New York Jets quarterback, who was in town to broadcast the Indianapolis Colts vs. Las Vegas Raiders game the next day, has pleaded not guilty to all charges. His trial is scheduled for March 2026 after being rescheduled from mid-December.
A Fox Sports spokesperson confirmed to Us Weekly on November 7 that Sanchez had been fired from the company.
“We can confirm that Mark Sanchez is no longer with the network,” the spokesperson said “There will be no further comment at this time.”
Sanchez returned to social media for the first time on October 26 after news broke that his friend Nick Mangold had died. The two were teammates on the Jets from 2009 to 2013.
“We lost a good man today. I know @realnickmangold will be a hall-of-famer, but there’s more to his story than his accomplishments on the gridiron,” he wrote via Instagram. “He was more than a teammate. He was my big brother who introduced me to the NFL. He showed me the ropes.”
Sanchez added, “He was my friend and confidant. He was a role model and a great father to his children and husband to his wife. Our hearts are heavy. We will miss you. Rest easy amigo. I love you big fella.”
“It’s been a long month for Mark as he continues to recover from serious injuries while also grieving the loss of a close friend,” Mark’s brother Nick Sanchez Jr. said in a statement to Us on behalf of the Sanchez family on November 7. “While the recent news — and its timing — is understandably disappointing, our priority remains his continued healing and recovery. Mark deeply values his time at Fox and the exceptional colleagues he’s had the privilege to work with. Those relationships are meaningful and will endure.”
