Mariah Carey Gave Her New Wax Figure Diamonds From Her Own Closet
Most parents take their kids to see Santa. If you’re Mariah Carey’s kid, you go see your mom’s very own wax figure.
On Sunday, November 3, the “All I Want for Christmas” singer helped unveil “Wax Mariah” during a red carpet event at Madame Tussauds in New York City. Carey, 55, was joined by her two 13-year-old twins, Monroe and Moroccan, whom she shares with ex-husband Nick Cannon.
Dressed to the nines in a sparkling gown and no shortage of jewelry, Carey’s wardrobe mirrored that of the wax figure. The entire family noticed — as did everyone on the internet, who speculated as to which was which after Carey posted a video of the experience on Instagram.
“Oh my gosh!” a noticeably giddy Carey said while approaching the figure’s display. “Wow! It’s like I’m looking at you through a mirror,” Moroccan quipped.
The figure wears an elegant red sequined gown identical to the one the real Mariah wore in a promo for her 2020 Apple TV+ Original holiday special, Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas.
The dress, as Carey explained, is inspired by Marilyn Monroe, who has been her lifelong muse since the third grade when she saw Monroe’s film, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, for the first time.
“I love the glamour,” Carey previously said about emulating the late actress’s legendary Old Hollywood sense of style. “There’s something about that specific era where it was just magical.”
The same could be said for her wax figure’s bling, which as Carey revealed, is from her personal jewelry collection. She donated a near-blinding diamond-and-ruby necklace, matching earrings and a butterfly ring to her wax figure to give it authenticity.
The generous move felt fitting for Carey, who previously said: “For the most part, people let you down. So I might have to go with [diamonds being a girl’s best friend].”
Carey memorably wore the necklace to the Empire State Building in 2016, where she was given the all-important task of turning the lights on for Christmas, which is now an annual tradition.
At the time, she posted a photo on Instagram thanking the building in the caption: “I had to climb a ladder in heels to get there,” she wrote, “but it was worth it!”
Wax Mariah also wore a killer pair of heels. “Look at those shoes!” Carey said in admiration. The red satin sandals with crystal-encrusted straps were right in line with Carey’s Christian Louboutins.
As Carey pointed out, the figure even has the same beauty mark on her cheek. “Wax Mariah is my new best friend,” she said, hugging her. Diamonds and wax figures really are a girl’s BFF.
