Landman Season 2: What to Know After Jon Hamm’s Onscreen Death
Taylor Sheridan‘s Landman had fans on the edge of their seats — but what would season 2 cover after that shocking death?
Landman, which premiered in November 2024, is Sheridan’s newest hit series, joining the ranks of Yellowstone, Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, Lawmen: Bass Reeves and Lioness. Based on the “Boomtown” podcast from creator Christian Wallace, Landman introduced Billy Bob Thornton as a corporate fixer working for an oil titan (Jon Hamm) in a West Texas-set drama with life-and-death stakes.
The season finale delivered on its promise of plot twists when Hamm’s Monty was killed off while Tommy (Thornton) was named the president of M-Tex before getting kidnapped — and severely beaten — by a drug cartel leader. Tommy is eventually released with the promise that he will work with the cartel.
Wallace discussed how the show set up for Monty’s death, telling TV Insider in January 2025, “Yeah, you kind of drop these little pieces throughout the entire season. There’s Monty checking his heart rate on his watch or his wife Cami telling him no more coffee and just little things that were dropped this entire time to kind of let you know that something’s going on so that when it does finally happen, it’s not just completely out of nowhere.”
He continued: “But you also don’t wanna be too heavy-handed about it and just telegraph that explicitly to the viewers. So it’s just kind of a matter of trying to strike that balance of letting people know that there’s an issue without making it just the only thing that they can think about.”
With Monty no longer a major player, the narrative shakeup paved the way for Demi Moore‘s character Cami to be added into the mix more. Elsewhere in the show, Ali Larter‘s Angela, Jacob Lofland’s Cooper, Michelle Randolph‘s Ainsley and more are at the center of their own drama.

Has ‘Landman’ Been Renewed?
Despite not being officially picked up for a second season yet, Landman became Paramount+’s first original series or more to bring in nearly 15 millions viewers in four weeks. Moore told reporters at the Cannes Film Festival in August 2024 that she is “excited for us to start the second, which will be at the beginning of next year.”
Who Would Reprise Their Characters?
Aside from Hamm, Larter, Moore, Lofland, Randolph, Kayla Wallace, Paulina Chávez, James Jordan and Colm Feore are expected to return. Andy Garcia, who made his debut as cartel boss Gallino in the season 1 finale, would likely play a large role in season 2 as well.
Could Jon Hamm’s Character Come Back?
“It is safe to say that Monty has passed,” Wallace confirmed to Variety in January 2025. “But when you take one major player off the board, it opens up opportunities for other players — and I think that’s all I’m at liberty to say at this point.”
Is It Demi Moore’s Time to Shine?
Wallace weighed in on how it is Cami’s time to shine, telling Variety in January 2025, “There is a lot more story left to tell with Cami. Taylor has big plans, that’s all I’m going to say.”
The creator elaborated in a separate interview with TV Insider.
“I think Demi’s character in this first season was kind of playing a little bit of second fiddle to Monty, at least in his role as the president of M-Tex Oil,” Wallace explained. “He’s the one that’s calling the shots and has to make these big decisions, and so he’s really the one that’s thrust in the fire and is honestly kind of trying to shield his family from the stress that he’s experiencing, which ultimately plays a role in his demise. And Cami is aware but is not involved in the daily ongoings of M-Tex. And so his passing is kind of an incredible opportunity for Cami to play a bigger role in this world.”
Wallace didn’t confirm season 2, adding, “If the show were to go forward, I think everyone involved would love to see more of Cami and more of Demi.”
Would Billy Bob Thornton Return?
“I think Taylor is trying to kill me,” Thornton joked to Variety in January 2025. “He had me beat up at the beginning and beat up at the end. At least he let me throw a few punches myself there in the middle.”
What Are the Plans for Michelle Randolph’s Controversial Character?
When Landman premiered, Thornton’s scenes with 27-year-old Randolph, who plays his 17-year-old daughter, went viral. The most-talked about moments included her talking to her father about sex while walking around his house — which he shares with two men of similar age — in bikinis and her underwear.
“I think being comfortable in your sexuality is something to be celebrated. If that’s what you feel as a human [and] aligns with who you are, then be authentically yourself. And that’s what she’s doing,” Randolph told People in January 2025. “Though she is 17, so I think as she gets older, she’ll put up more boundaries and understand the way the world works more. But as far as she’s concerned, right now, this is the way she’s been raised and she’s going to figure out if she thinks that’s right or wrong or she wants to change it.”
Randolph made it clear she had no regrets about working on Landman, saying, “I’m so proud of the show that we made, and so I just didn’t let myself have a perspective on what the audience thought. I think I’ve said before, [that] I disassociated [during certain scenes], but you kind of have to. I did my job when I was filming and then I closed the door and we put it out there, and I’m excited to hopefully continue the character and that’s all I can do.”
