Johnny Gaudreau’s Family Reacts to Son Carter’s Birth

The family of Johnny Gaudreau celebrated the birth of his son, Carter, seven months after the NHL star was killed.
Johnny’s wife, Meredith Gaudreau, announced she had given birth to the couple’s third baby on Monday, April 7.
“Another baby boy 🥹💙,” Meredith shared via Instagram, alongside a carousel of photos from the child’s first few days. “Carter Michael Gaudreau – same middle name as his daddy. 8lb 3 ounces, 20.5 inches – exact same as his daddy. He looks exactly like his daddy too 🥰.”
Meredith added, “I love you so much my baby! We are going to have so much fun. I can’t wait to give you the best life, my special boy forever.”
Johnny and his brother, Matthew Gaudreau, were killed in August 2024, after being struck by an alleged drunk driver while riding bicycles in Oldmans Township, New Jersey. Johnny was 31 years old, while Matthew was 29.
Meredith and Johnny also share daughter Noa, 2, and Johnny, 13 months.
Katie Gaudreau, Johnny’s youngest sister who was scheduled to get married the day after he was killed, reacted enthusiastically to the family’s newest addition.
“John’s perfect family,” Katie shared via Instagram Story alongside a picture of Meredith and her three children. Katie posted another picture of the foursome and wrote, “John and Mers perfect babies.”
In a separate post, Katie called Carter “our 2nd piece of heaven” who had been “delivered right to us by John 🤍.”
In December 2024, Matthew’s wife, Madeline Gaudreau, gave birth to their first baby, son Tripp.
Madeline celebrated Carter’s arrival via her Instagram Story, sharing a picture of Meredith holding him in the hospital and captioned, “My second nephew 🤍💙Tripps best friend.”
Tripp made his official social media debut on Sunday, April 6, when Madeline posted pictures of his face for the first time.
Madeline took Tripp to a game of the USHL’s Omaha Lancers, where Matthew was being honored on Saturday, April 5. Matthew played over 100 games for the team from 2011 to 2013.
Katie was in attendance for the ceremony, where she marveled at the strength of her sister-in-law Madeline — and gave a special shoutout to her nephew, Tripp.
“Could celebrate how amazing you two are every weekend,” Katie shared via Instagram on Sunday. “Thankful for a weekend in Omaha celebrating our favorite Lancer. “Also… everyone say hi to my handsome nephew who looks exactly like his daddy.”
Katie added, “I hope these weekends of hockey and honoring you two never end. The most love forever.”
