Jennifer Lopez Trades Her High Heels for Dior Ballet Flats

Jennifer Lopez is famous for her outré style — from her figure-hugging gowns to her perilously high heels, the taller the better.

Her pointed court shoes and stacked platforms have been a signature part of her on-stage and off-duty looks for decades. She trains, performs and even does her own stunts in them, making her an unlikely star to embrace the ballet shoe trend.

When Lopez, 55, stepped out in Beverly hills on Sunday, October 20, in a decidedly more sensible grounded shoe, it was a rare sighting for fans, who she stopped to greet and snap a few selfies. Without her usual pair of vertiginous stilettos, Lopez looked very comfortable — and very chic.

She paired a black cashmere Dior sweater with a pussy-bow neckline and pearl buttons with Dior’s D-Joy satin flats, which featured grosgrain trim and ribbon ties that lace around the ankle. Cropped black pants with a tuxedo stripe hit at the right place to put her fancy flats on display.

Lopez brought it all back to more familiar territory with a quilted Chanel handbag adorned with gold double-C hardware, plus glamorously oversized black sunglasses. By showcasing her ability to balance elegance and everyday luxury, her Sunday look was perfectly on pointe.

A master of movement, Lopez has shared her secrets to dancing for hours in high heels. As she previously explained to Vogue back in 2017: “By wearing heels frequently, you figure out how to distribute your weight and posture so that all the pressure isn’t only on the arches of your feet, which is what usually causes pain.” However, heels with a platform “make a huge difference.”

“I like super-high platforms, the whole situation,” she told Women’s Wear Daily in 2020. At the time, Lopez had just launched a limited-edition shoe collection she designed in collaboration with DSW. “There are a lot of working girls and women out there. We have sneakers, and then we have the super, super high fashion ones, with the tall heels and the platforms,” Lopez added.

“The shoe thing for me goes deep, it goes deeper than ‘I love shoes.” So while flats are a recent addition to her wardrobe, something tells us J.Lo isn’t going to hang up her platforms any time soon.
