Jennifer Lawrence Shows Off Baby Bump at Governors Awards
Jennifer Lawrence is positively glowing during her pregnancy with baby No. 2.
Lawrence, 34, showed off her baby bump while attending the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ 15th Annual Governors Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 17.
Lighting up the red carpet at the Ray Dolby Ballroom, the Passengers star wore a figure-hugging, chocolate-brown gown embellished with gold features at one shoulder and both sides of the waistline.
The actress wore her hair up for the occasion and matched the gown’s gold accents with a striking gold clutch before smiling for the event’s photographers.
The Los Angeles outing came just four days after Lawrence attended the premiere of the Bread & Roses documentary at the Hammer Museum in L.A., cradling her baby bump in a black, off-the-shoulder Christian Lacroix gown with a tulle appliqué on the bodice.
Us Weekly confirmed on October 20 that Lawrence is expecting her second baby with husband Cooke Maroney, an art gallery director. The couple, who got married in 2019, share 2-year-old son Cy.
Lawrence’s first red carpet attendance with bump No. 2 in tow was quick to follow the news, as the actress posed for photos at the 2024 AFI Fest premiere of the reproductive rights documentary Zurawski v Texas,in Los Angeles on October 23.
At that outing, Lawrence opted for a sleek, off-the-shoulder white buttoned dress and accentuated her bump by tying a belt above her stomach.
Lawrence sparked pregnancy speculation after flashing her bump while at dinner on October 19. Vogue was first to report the news at the time.
The reveal came after Us previously confirmed that Lawrence and Maroney, 40, were contemplating life with a second baby.
“They’re thinking about having another child,” a source told Us in June 2023. “At first they weren’t sure if they wanted another one because it’s so much work, but they’re obsessed with Cy and love showing off videos to their friends and family. They’ve started warming up to the possibility of a second.”
Lawrence spoke candidly about how nervous she felt during her pregnancy with her first baby, telling Cameron Diaz during a chat for Interview magazine in June 2023 that she felt instinctively protective over her unborn baby.
“I was so nervous when I was pregnant. I was getting paparazzi’d, and I was just like, ‘How the f— am I not going to lose it on these guys when they’re taking a picture of my baby?’” she told Diaz, 52. “Then once he was here, I realized that my energy is more important to him than anything else. So if he feels that I’m anxious before I leave the house, or I’m angry when we’re outside, that’s going to impact him.”
One year prior to the interview, Lawrence had spoken about the pressures of being a mom in an equally raw interview with Variety. “Every day of being a mom, I feel awful,” Lawrence said during a June 2022 “Actors on Actors” interview. “I feel guilty. I’m playing with him and I’m like, ‘Is this what he wants to be doing? Should we be outside?’ We’re outside [and I’m like], ‘What if he’s cold? What if he’s going to get sick? Should we be inside? Is this enough? Is this developing your brain enough?’”
