Inside Hailee Steinfeld’s 15-Minute Makeup Routine for Date Nights
Hailee Steinfeld’s makeup routine for date nights with husband Josh Allen is so just like Us — meaning low-key and can be done in less than 20 minutes.
“Fifteen minutes is plenty of time,” Steinfeld, 28, wrote in the Friday, November 7, edition of her “Beau Society” newsletter. “If it’s a weeknight and we’re running out, I’m not trying anything new. … Always, less is more.”
Steinfeld and the Buffalo Bills quarterback, 29, have been together since 2023. They got married this summer, often keeping their newlywed life private. Even with their love life to themselves, Steinfeld still looks her best.
“One tip for speed that sounds counterintuitive but is really helpful: I set out all my makeup before I start, so I feel organized and I’m not rifling through my bag,” Steinfeld said in her newsletter, going on to list her complete beauty regimen.
The Sinners actress begins by applying Neutrogena’s Collagen Bank Daily Face Moisturizer with SPF before adding the rest of her makeup products.
“I’ve been loving underpainting. You can be messy and imperfect, and apply your contour without fully blending it because you’re going to buff everything out with your foundation brush in two seconds,” Steinfeld said. “I use almost everything in Mary [Phillips’] Underpainting Palette: the color corrector, highlight and contour.”
While her contour in place, Steinfeld brushes on a light wash of foundation before dabbing Tarte’s Toasted Amazonian Clay Eyeshadow Palette on her lids.
“I use this trick I got from a Katie Jane Hughes tutorial [where I] pick up a darker shadow color, spread it across my lashline, and buff it out,” she explained. “It just adds some subtle definition.”
Next, Steinfeld touches up her brows, uses Tarte’s Tartelette Tubing Mascara on her lashes and Patrick Ta’s Major Headlines Double-Take blush on her cheekbones before moving onto her lips.
Steinfeld will outline her pout in “one of three rotating lip liners” from her collection — Charlotte Tilbury Iconic Nude, Makeup Forever Wherever Walnut, or MAC Whirl.
“Honestly, they’re all basically the same,” she pointed out, noting that she completes the process with a swipe of lip balm. “I’ve been loving Mary [Phillips’] Lip Ciggy, which is very tiny and precise.”
Lastly, Steinfeld revealed that she uses a Freck Beauty pen “to cover [her] beauty marks.”
Steinfeld only recently started to conceal beauty marks and blemishes.
“In the last five years, a makeup artist touched up my beauty marks after doing my makeup,” she told Cosmopolitan in a March interview. “I didn’t realize they’d been covered for so long until she accentuated them. At that moment, I felt like my beauty marks had been with me forever.”
She continued, “When I think about my younger self, I’d tell her to lean into her natural beauty. Cover up what you want, but embrace what makes you you.”
When Steinfeld isn’t getting all glammed up, she’s been enjoying the simple newlywed life with Allen.
“That inner peace that you have, that rock, that solid, consistent part of your life is indescribable. I literally thank God every day that I found my person, and it’s the greatest thing in the world,” she told Bustle in a profile published earlier this week. “Life makes sense. Everything makes sense. I feel like I am stepping into the version that I’ve always dreamed of being, having so much to do with being with him.”
