How Ohio State’s Jack Sawyer is Making Money Off Crazy Texas TD

Ohio State defensive end Jack Sawyer struck while the iron was hot following his incredible touchdown in the College Football Playoff semifinal.

After Sawyer, 22, returned a fumble for 83 yards and a game-clinching touchdown against Texas on Friday, January 10, the college football star quickly dropped some merchandise to celebrate the instantly-iconic moment.

The NIL Store is now home to the exclusive release of Sawyer’s “Scoop N’ Score” merch, a reference to his sack of Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers which resulted in the touchdown.

A black hoodie, black crew sweatshirt and black tee featuring images of Sawyer’s big play are available for purchase in the store. The items retail for $64.99, $54.99 and $39.99, respectively.

Per Sawyer’s deal with The NIL Store, the shop also offers jerseys, sweatshirts and shirts featuring Sawyer’s name, image and likeness. (In 2021, a law went into effect allowing collegiate athletes to profit by selling their NIL rights.)

The Ohio State star also has deals with Wendy’s, The Players Trunk clothing store and Ricart Automotive, according to his Instagram.

Sawyer’s touchdown, which came with just over two minutes remaining in the game as Texas was driving for a potential game-tying touchdown, secured Ohio State’s trip to the College Football Playoff National Championship on Monday, January 20.

The Buckeyes will battle Notre Dame at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, hoping to secure the school’s first national title since 2014.

After the game, Sawyer told ESPN’s Holly Rowe about the magnitude of the moment.

“This means everything to me,” Sawyer said. “God’s blessed this team with so much talent. I kind of blacked out when I ran over and I picked it up. Coach put us in a great position. I mean, I was just put in a good position by the coaches and I saw the ball pop right to me after I tackled him.”

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day couldn’t help but praise Sawyer, who made the decision to return to Ohio State for his senior season despite an attractive NFL Draft profile.

“To make a play like that in that moment,” Day, 45, told ESPN. “You want to leave a legacy behind? You become a legend. He just became a legend at Ohio State.”
