Glen Powell Takes on ‘Family Guy’ in 1st Look at Halloween Special

He’s been a hit man, a storm chaser, a naval aviator and even a dreamy rom-com lead — but Glen Powell is taking on a completely unique role in Family Guy’s upcoming Halloween Special.

“Well, well, well, Miracle Grow Joe,” Powell, 35, voicing the character Patrick McCloskey, says to Family Guy’s Joe Swanson in Us Weekly’s exclusive sneak peek of the episode, premiering on Monday, October 14.

“McCloskey, what are you doing here?” Swanson replies in shock as Powell’s character — whose outfit is complete with a gold pumpkin belt buckle — approaches the group at the Quahog annual Pumpkin Contest.

“I saved my wristband from last year. They didn’t change the color,” Powell, as McCloskey, explains.

Serving as the reigning champion of the Pumpkin Contest and the antagonist of the episode, Powell brings his classic charisma and humor to the role of McCloskey.

“Well, something doesn’t add up,” his character says in the clip. “Last year, your pumpkin was 18 pounds and this year it’s 307? Seems like a disproportionate step up. But what do I know? Just almost every pumpkin thing there is.”

While Swanson tells him to “get lost,” McCloskey warns: “Oh, no, I’m stickin’ around. I’m gonna get to the bottom of this.”

Since its debut in 1999, Family Guy has cultivated a cultlike fan following and a plethora of awards, making it only the second animated series in television history to be nominated for the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series.

Helmed by Seth MacFarlane, Family Guy is known for its robust slate of famous guest stars, Powell being the most recent in a long line of greats.

In the latest season alone, Bryan Cranston, Christopher Meloni, Danny Trejo, Nick Viall and Niecy Nash all lent their voices to the iconic animated series.

For his part, Powell has been on an exponential trajectory recently, generating buzz for his roles in Twisters, Anyone But You and Hit Man in the last year — but he still remains humble.

When an “unnamed producer” speaking to TheWrap claimed that Powell is “the biggest up-and-coming movie star” right now — unlike Ryan Gosling, “whose appeal is mostly limited to female audiences” — Powell simply responded: “Gosling is a legend. I’m just Glen.”
