Flavor Flav Responds to Scoring Snafu After Alix Earle’s DWTS Routine

Flavor Flav is offering some clarity about his scoring debacle during last night’s Dancing With the Stars.

“As a judge on #DWTS,,, you hit your score on a computer first,,, then hold up the sign,” Flav, 66, shared via X on Tuesday, November 4. “I accidentally hit 9 for someone and told the crew I meant to hit 10,,, and they said they can’t change it and there’s nothing I can do. That girl deserved perfect 10s.”

DWTS fans were quick to speculate that the rapper was referring to Alix Earle and partner Val Chmerkovskiy, who nearly got a perfect score for their paso doble to “Livin’ on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi.

Flav was the only judge who didn’t give the duo a 10 — and viewers were livid.

“Thatz why I kept looking down at the computer and got all confused,” Flav continued in a separate social media post. “I thought I hit a 10.”

Despite his minor snafu with the scoring system, Flav told Us Weekly exclusively Tuesday night that he had “so much fun” sitting at the judges’ table.

“It was amazing. It was phenomenal. It was out of this world. It was breathtaking, man,” he gushed. “I can’t believe I’m on Dancing With the Stars tonight. One of the biggest and largest shows in America right now.”

Flav also offered some insight into what he was looking for when it came to dishing out the scores.

“To tell you the truth, what I’ve seen was some of the greatest footwork … and some of the greatest teamwork,” he explained. “I look for precision.”

The rapper said that he was studying “the moves” while watching each dance and kept an eye on “the timing” of the routines.

“Each one of these couples, man, had some perfect timing tonight,” he added. “It was great.”

A live flub forced Dancing With the Stars cohost Alfonso Ribeiro to explain how routines are scored in the ballroom. After Mark Ballas and Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Whitney Leavitt hit the dance floor during the season 34 premiere on Tuesday, September 16, the pair received positive feedback from judges Derek Hough and […]

Earle and Chmerkovskiy also weighed in on their performance while speaking with Us after the live show. The TikTok star said there were no hard feelings toward her score this week.

“I was so ecstatic with our scores. We really worked very hard this week on this dance and it just felt so rewarding and great to get those scores,” she said. “It still feels like a crazy ‘pinch me’ moment that I’m able to come on here, do this show and then to get amazing scores like that.”

Earle said she’s “living out my biggest dreams” being on DWTS, so just wants to “soak it all in” instead of worrying.

“It is not an easy competition this year, and I think I take it almost as a compliment not getting a perfect score because that means they see more potential,” she explained. “I’m excited to unlock that new potential and hopefully squeeze out a perfect score eventually at some point during this competition.”
