Elle Fanning Wears Same Saint Laurent Suit as Hailey Bieber
Elle Fanning is suiting up like Hailey Bieber.
When the actress attended a photocall for A Complete Unknown, in London on Monday, December 16, she hit an androgynous note in the same Saint Laurent suit that Bieber, 28, memorably wore in October during a date-night-slash-work-party with her husband, Justin Bieber.
Fanning, for her part, stars alongside Timothée Chalamet in the new James Mangold-directed film about Bob Dylan. She plays Sylvie Russo, Dylan’s (Chalamet) one-time girlfriend, who is loosely based on Dylan’s real-life ex-girlfriend, the late Suze Rotolo.
When Rotolo wasn’t working as a jewelry maker and artist, she was the muse behind many of the musician’s greatest songs, including “Boots of Spanish Leather.” She also famously graced the cover of his groundbreaking second album, The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan.
Fanning made a similarly striking statement when photographed, not on Jones Street in Manhattan’s West Village, like Russo did for Dylan’s album cover art, but rather on the red carpet at The Curzon Mayfair, the iconic arthouse cinema located in London’s West End.
Her natty brown suit was a slight departure from the style originally seen on the Bieber, who wore a near-identical version in light gray. They both layered their oversize tailoring with a classic menswear-inspired oxford shirt and a patterned tie that was cut wide for a retro slant.
While Bieber’s trousers ran intentionally long for maximum swagger, Fanning kept the proportions in check by cinching hers with a black crocodile leather belt. They each grounded the wide-leg silhouette with knife-sharp pointed-toe pumps that peeked out ever so slightly.
Fanning added a decidedly gamine touch to her look with a single bobby pin in her hair to keep her retro big-barrel blonde curls in place. The move felt fitting for the leading lady, as did Bieber’s distinctive approach, which saw her with one of her signature oversize Emi Jay hair clips.
Chalamet, 28, has also been serving up head-turning beauty statements while promoting the film, most notably when he traded his trademark brown ringlets for a flat-ironed sandy blonde wig and a Old Navy beanie. The transformation, albeit temporary, was a pitch-perfect tribute to Dylan, now 83, who rocked the same look at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival, right down to the knit hat.
As they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
