Crazy Crust Pizza With Sausage

Growing up, we made this all the time, and we used a handwritten recipe that was jotted down on a note card. And it wasn’t until much later when I discovered that it wasn’t an original family recipe, but something that had been printed on a bag of flour. The toppings go right on top of the batter, and they sink into the crust as it bakes. Finishing it with the tomato sauce and cheese reminds me of a Chicago deep-dish pizza. But the crazy crust is a style unto itself. It’s totally distinct and it’s so easy to whip up. There’s no reason not to try it.
