Chris Martin Shares Touching Reason He Attended Apple’s Debutante Ball
Chris Martin shared the sweet reason why he was on-board with attending daughter Apple’s Le Bal Des Débutantes.
Martin, 47, told Rolling Stone in an interview published on Thursday, December 19, that attending the event was “so not something I ever thought I’d do, but because I’m so in love with her, I’m like, ‘OK.’”
While at the ball, Martin shared a slow dance with Apple as part of her introduction into formal society. Martin was seen smiling and laughing while dancing and talking to his daughter as he twirled her around, per a TikTok shared by Paris Match. Apple smiled during the moment.
The ball, which was held in Paris, was also a way to spend time with his whole family. (Martin’s son, Moses, is now in college but attended the event alongside his mother, Gwyneth Paltrow, and grandmother, Blythe Danner.)
“A special long weekend in Paris 💙,” Paltrow, 52, captioned a carousel of photos from the event on December 1.
While reflecting on his life as an empty nester, Martin told Rolling Stone that “it’s sad.” He added, “That’s the only word. But of course it’d be weirder if they were still like, ‘I can’t leave.’ Then you’d be more worried.”
Martin gushed that he “very much” likes his kids. “Even though they’re not biologically mine — I’m breaking the story now,” Martin joked. “My favorite new thing to embarrass my son is, if we’re walking down the street and someone comes up to us and they say, ‘I’m sorry to disturb you while you’re with your son,’ I say, ‘That’s not my son. That’s my partner.’”
Martin laughed, before adding, “Yeah. I like them a lot. I think they are mine, to be fair.”
The Coldplayer singer was married to Paltrow for more than 10 years before they separated in 2014 and finalized their divorce two years later. They have since been open about their dedication surrounding coparenting their children.
“Chris and I committed to putting them first and that’s harder than it looks because some days you really don’t want to be with the person that you are getting divorced from,” Paltrow said during a September 2020 appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show. “But if you’re committed to having family dinner then you do it. You take a deep breath, and you look the person in the eye, and you remember your pact, and you smile, and you hug and you recommit to this new relationship that you are trying to foster.”
Paltrow has since moved on with Brad Falchuk, whom she married in 2018, while Martin has been dating Dakota Johnson since 2017.
