Celeste Rivas’ Funeral Held After Her Body Was Found in D4vd’s Car
A funeral was held for Celeste Rivas — the teenage girl whose body was found in a car registered in singer D4vd’s name — amid the ongoing investigation into her death.
The service took place on Monday, October 6, at the Queen of Heaven Cemetery and Mortuary in Rowland Heights, California, nearly one month after the teen’s body was discovered.
Photos obtained by People showed members of Rivas’ family carrying a white casket adorned with pink and white flowers. Many of the family members kept their heads down, while others were covered by black umbrellas.
Us Weekly previously confirmed that the Los Angeles Police Department launched a death investigation after officers responded to a Hollywood tow yard on September 8 “for a foul odor coming from a vehicle.” Authorities found human remains inside a Tesla registered to D4vd (real name David Anthony Burke). The vehicle was reportedly towed from the Hollywood Hills after being reported abandoned nearly one week earlier.
At the time, a spokesperson for D4vd said in a statement to NBC News that the “Here With Me” singer had “been informed about [what] happened” and was “fully cooperating with the authorities.”
Law enforcement later identified the body as 15-year-old Rivas, noting that the remains were “severely decomposed” when discovered.
The Los Angeles County Coroner confirmed on September 23 that Rivas’ body was released to her family.
Rivas’ official cause of death has not yet been determined. It is currently listed as deferred.
“A deputy medical examiner completed an examination but requested additional testing and/or studies in order to make a determination,” the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner told KTLA on September 29.
“Due to the ongoing death investigation, the County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner cannot disclose what testing and/or studies were requested,” the medical examiner’s office added. “Deferred cases can take a few months before a cause of death is determined.”
In September, Rivas’ family launched a GoFundMe page to raise money for her funeral expenses.
“As many of you know, Celeste Rivas Hernandez has been identified as the body found last week,” her family wrote. “She was a beloved daughter, sister, cousin and friend. Her family is heartbroken and devastated by this tragic loss. They are seeking help to lay her body to rest. Any funds you are able to donate are greatly appreciated.”
The family later shared an update on the fundraising efforts, adding, “Thank you to everyone who is gracious enough to donate. The family is incredibly grateful. God bless.”
Prior to her death, Rivas had been reported missing in April 2024, with her last known location in Lake Elsinore, California, which is approximately 70 miles southeast of Los Angeles.
Any potential connection between Rivas and D4vd is still unknown. However, her mother told TMZ in September that Rivas had a boyfriend named David. The teen and the musician also both had a “shhhh” tattoo on their right index fingers.
Amid the investigation, police searched a home where D4vd had been staying, and the “Romantic Homicide” singer canceled his remaining tour stops. His music label, Interscope, and parent company UMG also paused the release of his debut album Withered’s deluxe edition.
D4vd has not been named as a suspect or charged in connection to Rivas’ death.
