CBS Renews Blue Bloods’ Boston Blue, Sheriff Country for Season 2

CBS just renewed multiple shows — including various spinoffs — for season 2.

The network announced on Wednesday, December 3, that Blue Bloods offshoot Boston Blue and Fire Country spinoff Sheriff Country for sophomore installments.

“Two new shows on Friday night have become instant hits with audiences quickly embracing Boston Blue and Sheriff Country across broadcast and streaming,” President of CBS Entertainment Amy Reisenbach shared in a statement on Wednesday. “These early renewals reflect the power of character-driven storytelling, compelling narratives and the exceptional talent on both sides of the camera that make these series truly stand out.”

According to a press release, Sheriff Country has averaged 7.6 million viewers and is “consistently a time period winner” for Friday nights at 8 P.M. Boston Blue, meanwhile, has brought in 8 million viewers and has “won every Friday night in total viewers.”

Blue Bloods, which premiered in 2010, followed the lives of the Reagan family, many of whom worked for the NYPD under the leadership of NYC police commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck). Frank and his father, Henry Reagan (Len Cariou), were central to the show, alongside Frank’s children: daughter Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan) and sons Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) and Jamie Reagan (Will Estes).

After Blue Bloods came to an end in 2024, CBS expanded with Boston Blue, which follows Danny’s character as he makes the switch from working with the NYPD to helping the Boston P.D. In addition to Danny, Boston Blue introduces Us to his partner Lena (Sonequa Martin-Green).

Wahlberg has found ways to involve his Blue Bloods costars in the spinoff, with Marisa Ramirez reprising the role of Maria Baez multiple times.

“The viewers are saying, ‘How do we keep going with a Blue Bloods spinoff without the whole family?’ And I share that. How do we do that, right?” Wahlberg told Fox News Digital in June about how any other member of the Reagan family is just a “phone call away.”

“Now, it’s just Danny going to this new world, but I can’t say a lot about it — but I could say, if he’s a Reagan, it will never be just Danny,” he shared at the time. “There’ll always be a Reagan a phone call away.”

Wahlberg continued: “And the traditions that the Reagans have, Danny wouldn’t abandon those traditions.”

Fire Country, meanwhile, introduced the town of Edgewater when the show premiered in 2022 with inmate Bode (Max Thieriot) returning home and volunteering for the California Conservation Camp Program during season 1 of the hit show. By season 2, a backdoor pilot set up the world of Sheriff Country, which is centered around Sharon’s (Diane Farr) estranged sister Mickey (Morena Baccarin) as she solves crimes in town.

Sheriff Country airs on CBS Fridays at 8 p.m. ET and Boston Blue airs at 10 p.m. ET.
