Brantley Gilbert and Wife Amber Cochran’s Relationship Timeline
Brantley Gilbert’s wife, Amber Cochran, was the one that almost got away.
“I met her 10 years ago. I met her in church, and long story short, we were on and off for five years, mostly on,” Gilbert told E! News in June 2015. “Losing her, it was a straight downhill jolt at first.”
Gilbert was previously engaged to Jana Kramer before splitting in August 2013. Gilbert ultimately got back together with Cochran. His rep confirmed to Us Weekly in June 2015 that Gilbert and Cochran had exchanged vows.
“She’s the one that got away for five years, and they always say if you love something you’ve got to let it go, and if it’s meant to be, it’ll come back,” he continued to E! News at the time. “It’s so cliché, but now it happened to me. So I’m a believer.”
Gilbert and Cochran — who has inspired several of his tracks, including “More Than Miles” and “You Don’t Know Her Like I Do” — share three kids. They welcomed son Barrett in November 2017, daughter Braylen in September 2019 and son Abram in October 2024.

After trying for a baby after their wedding, Gilbert and Cochran announced they were expecting their first child together. Gilbert recalled the moment Cochran told him he was going to be a father before he hit the stage in Louisville.
“She handed me a box and there were three pregnancy tests in there and all of them were positive,” Gilbert told People at the time. “I think I stared at it for at least two minutes without saying anything because I was literally in shock. We’d been told it was just not in the cards, and I’m staring at this answer to many, many, many prayers.”

The pair welcomed their first child, son Barrett. “Barrett Hardy-Clay Gilbert was born on Saturday, November 11 at 1:37 p.m. after a fairly quick labor at Piedmont Hospital in Athens, Georgia,” a rep for Gilbert told Us at the time. He weighed 6 pounds, 7 ounces, and measured 20 inches in length.

Bring on all the bows and pink!”

The couple welcomed their second child, daughter Braylen. “Happy…. Healthy…. Blessed…. Thanks,” he captioned an Instagram post at the time.
Gilbert revealed that his song “Man That Hung the Moon” was inspired by his growing family. “We had just found out Amber was pregnant with Barrett when I wrote the song originally — we couldn’t even tell family yet as it was so early along in the pregnancy — yet I couldn’t keep that excitement bottled up. I had to do something as all these emotions were hitting me at once. I wrote ‘Man That Hung the Moon’ on the bus heading home thinking how life was about to change in the most incredible ways,” he told People at the time. “Braylen joining our family now makes it all that much more special.”

The duo welcomed their third child after Cochran went into labor during his concert and gave birth on the tour bus. While performing his show in Tupelo, Mississippi, Gilbert was pulled off stage for an emergency. In a video shared via Instagram, Gilbert was then seen calling his mom.
After his mom asked how he was doing, Gilbert replied, “Not as good as you’re about to be. You got a new grandbaby!” Gilbert gushed that Cochran was a “freaking savage” before going back on stage to announce to the crowd: “We got a baby in Mississippi!”
Gilbert reminisced on the whirlwind moment in the caption of his upload. “So last night might have been the craziest night of my life. Watching such an amazing woman do such an amazing thing is something I’ll never forget,” he wrote. “Thank you to our road family for rallying around us, Brittany Thornton for helping us bring this little dude into the world, Tupelo, Mississippi for showing us mad love and support, and most of all … Amber Gilbert, for letting me love you and showing me EXACTLY how incredibly strong a woman can be. I love you.”
They revealed in a separate joint post that their son’s name is Abram Howell Gilbert. “We will never forget the way you got here and we can’t wait to see what you do here,” Gilbert and Cochran captioned the upload.
