Ben Higgins Has ‘No Judgement’ If Grant Ellis Can’t Pick Between Final 2
Former Bachelor Ben Higgins is weighing in on the idea that Grant Ellis can’t make up his mind between his final two contestants.
After a trailer aired for the remainder of Grant’s season 29 after the Monday, January 27, premiere episode, Ben, 35, observed that the lead “can’t make this decision” of who to spend the rest of his life with.
“Let me be clear. I have no judgment for [it] — I get it, I understand it. I’ve been in it, and those emotions at the end are confusing,” Ben said on the Monday episode of the “Almost Famous” podcast. “It’s chaotic and especially if something hasn’t happened that’s really made one stand out above the other. I can see how this would happen.”
Ben urged viewers to “take a second and not judge” Grant, 31, for seemingly being unable to make up his mind.
“Maybe the better perspective [is] to say, ‘I get how this could get to this point and I feel for him, but outside of all that he needs to make a decision, even one that could be tough on him.’ Meaning he walks away because he’s like, ‘I’m conflicted and I’ll call you in three months,’” Ben said.
Ben previously starred as the lead of The Bachelor season 20, which premiered in January 2016. Ben ultimately proposed to Lauren Bushnell in the season finale, sending home runner-up JoJo Fletcher. (Ben and Lauren, 34, went their separate ways in May 2017 after their brief spinoff series Ben and Lauren, Happily Ever After? He has since wed wife Jess Clarke, while Lauren tied the knot with husband Chris Lane.)
When it comes to Grant’s decision, host Jesse Palmer exclusively confirmed to Us Weekly that the lead was truly torn between the two final women.
“It’s real,” Jesse, 46, told Us earlier this month. “And I don’t know if you could tell from watching that from my reaction, [but] I was surprised. That was something that I haven’t encountered yet as the host in the last four years on any of the franchises. Normally, I think, our leads have a little bit more clarity — a lot more clarity — heading into the final day. And I really think that’s how conflicted Grant really was.”
Grant, for his part, explained that he tends to be a “really decisive person” — just not when it “comes to matters of the heart.”
“So even from night one, I didn’t wanna send people home, but it’s something I had to do,” Grant told Us. “And then when you couple that with the amazing women that are on the season, it becomes really hard. And then you add the absence and the lack of time that you have — it’s definitely difficult.”
Despite the confusion in the final moments on the show, Grant teased to Us that he’s in a good place. “I’m happy with life and I’m happy with the way that things are going and the way that things played out,” he said.
