Below Deck’s Harry Teases Future With Brianna After Onscreen Awkwardness

Below Deck Down Under‘s Harry van Vliet has several regrets when watching back season 3 — specifically while seeing the romantic moments with Brianna Duffield.

During an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Harry admitted he was “cringing” when he saw his attempt at being nonchalant after kissing Bri.

“I’m like, ‘Oh really? Come on, that’s not what I meant,’” he noted. “I thought I was all good. I had everything under control with Bri. I thought we were both on the same page but now watching it back, it looks like I’m not doing the right thing.”

Harry realized he needed “to be more clear” but his focus was divided between his romantic life, his job as a deckhand and a painful injury.

The cast of Below Deck and its spinoff series will do just about anything for love … or at least to have a fun crew hookup. After seven seasons of the Bravo series — with more than 100 episodes — there have been plenty of romances to watch unfold. Add in the Below Deck Mediterranean flings and Below Deck Sailing […]

“We are on a busy charter so there’s a lot [going on]. Obviously I’ve got a sore thumb,” he explained. “I’m trying to stay employed because if I slack off, [Captain] Jason [Chambers] is probably going to fire me. So there’s a lot of things going on. But that’s probably one of the things I should have prioritized a bit more.”

Season 3 of Below Deck Down Under, which premiered in February, featured Harry’s return after he was previously a crew member one season prior. He attempted to navigate proving his worth on deck while still finding time for romance.

“I went in with a bit more experience,” he told Us. “During the off season, I did my Yachtmaster so I got my certificate and was ready to prove to Jason that I can be a bosun and be a lead deckhand. That’s what I’m hoping to be.”

Harry didn’t rule out a romance though, which is why he acted on his feelings for Bri.

Below Deck has followed various relationships and flings throughout the franchise — but some stars found love with one another outside their seasons. Malia White‘s introduction to Below Deck Mediterranean in season 2 came with a love triangle between Adam Glick and Wesley Walton. Although Malia and Wes gave their romance another try offscreen — […]

“I wasn’t swearing off boatmances but I was definitely going to hold my cards closer to my chest. I wanted to make sure that I don’t open the floodgates and let all my feelings out like I did in season 2,” he said about his failed connection with Margot Sisson. “It looks like I’m doing too much. It looks like last time I let it all out too quickly. Now I’m being too slow.”

According to Harry, he didn’t want to wait too long after realizing bosun Wihan Du Toit was interested in Bri as well, adding, “Wihan did mention it to me. So I think that was definitely on my mind on the night and was one of the reasons why I probably also made the move. Because if I wasn’t going to then someone else would.”

He continued: “Bri and I just matched each other with our energy and vibes. Our sparks are flying and connecting instantly. She’s got Labrador energy like I’ve got Labrador energy so I think that’s why I was drawn to her and kissed her on the first night. I just really felt an instant connection with her, which I don’t think I get that very often. I don’t think I’ve ever had it really before.”

Despite their connection growing on screen, Harry didn’t give away whether they remained together after the charter season came to an end.

“It’s very hard — especially when two people meet from different sides of the world. But whenever I meet someone and have a boatmance with them, I’m always looking for The One,” Harry admitted. “And definitely Bri and I were matching each other’s energy, so we click and we get along. You have to wait and see but we are definitely on the right track as long as I pick up my game.”

Below Deck Down Under airs on Bravo Mondays at 8 p.m. ET. New episodes stream the next day on Peacock.
