Ariana Grande’s ‘Relationship With Makeup’ Grew Because of Wicked

Ariana Grande completely transformed herself — and her views on makeup — to play Glinda in Wicked.

Grande, 31, opened up about how she gets ready to play the Good Witch via Instagram on Thursday, November 7. “This makeup made me transform my entire look and my entire relationship to makeup,” she said while getting glammed up. “I just love it so much. Love, love, love.”

Grande continued, “There’s no thick eyeliner, there’s no heavy crease, it’s just really warm and open and pretty.” While she no longer is donning as heavy eye makeup as she used to, Grande still feels true to herself. “The lashes are in a cat [eye] shape, which still gives you the cat eye lift that I usually love, but it’s a more honest representation of what you look like,” she explained.

As she added extra bronzer to her cheeks, Grande gushed that she and Cynthia Erivo, who plays Elphaba, are both big fans of a sharp cheek. “One thing about these witches is they are contoured,” Grande quipped.

Ariana Grande is channeling her Wicked character Glinda with a bold style statement. The 30-year-old singer wore a bubble gum pink dress in an Instagram photo posted on Monday, February 5. The strapless dress was floor-length and featured a large pink bow belt that cinched in at her waist. The dress softly billowed around her […]

The actress praised her blonde wigs for looking so realistic because the hair department plucked each hairline to “the perfect shape.”

Between hair, makeup and tattoo cover-up, Grande boasted that she takes “the least amount of time” to get ready “out of the whole cast.”

“Tattoo time!” Grande said as a makeup artist got to work on the singer’s hands, which are adorned with hearts, patterns, a Harry Potter reference and more ink. “We have to cover quite a bit,” she said, noting how many tattoos they conceal depends on the costume she’s wearing.

Grande also opened up about Glinda’s “over-the-top, clown-y and big,” personality, which is reflected through her glam and wardrobe.

While creating her look, Grande asked, “How can we honor how loud she can be and how big she can be, while also translating it to what works on screen?”

“That’s been a really fun but intimating part of the process because Glinda is so beloved as is,” she admitted.

The “Eternal Sunshine” singer then changed into her ball gown pink dress and headed to set.

Wicked premieres in theaters on November 22.
