Amy Schumer Learned She Has Cushing Syndrome Because of Online Trolls
Amy Schumer actually has online trolls to thank for leading her to Cushing Syndrome diagnosis.
Schumer, 43, opened up about “the internet coming for her” swollen face in 2024 press appearances during a “Call Her Daddy” podcast episode on Wednesday, January 22. At first, she tried to brush off the insults until “doctors [started] chiming in in the comments.”
The actress explained, “They were, like, ‘No, no … something’s really up. Your face looks so crazy that we think something’s up.’” Schumer, who was confused why doctors would be trolling her, added that the social media users thought she had Cushing syndrome. (For the uninitiated, Cushing syndrome is a disorder caused by elevated cortisol in the blood. It leads to a puffy, red, round face.)
Schumer then realized that the steroid injections she was taking to minimize scarring from her breast reduction and C-section could be to blame for her swollen facial features.
“I was getting these steroid injections, and so it gave me this thing called Cushing syndrome; which I wouldn’t have known if the internet hadn’t come for me so hard,” she told host Alex Cooper.
Schumer went on to add that she was diagnosed with Cushing in February 2024, right before she started filming Kind of Pregnant.
“I learned that I had something called ‘moon face,’ and I’m starring in a movie and there’s a camera in my face, and I’m like, ‘Oh my God.’ I was feeling really down on myself before I started filming this movie.”
The comedian revealed that she leaned on her friend, director Lorraine Caffery, for support, who told her: “You know what, I think you look f—ing great.”
“I just needed one person to amp me up,” Schumer said.
Now, Schumer’s swelling has all but disappeared after her system naturally flushed it out all on its own. Take that, internet trolls.
