Alix Earle Shares Why She Cut Bangs on ‘Dancing With the Stars’ (Excl)

Alix Earle is down to change her appearance for Dancing With the Stars themed nights.

Earle, 24, exclusively opened up to Us Weekly about cutting wispy bangs for her Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Night performance on Dancing With the Stars on Tuesday, November 4. Ahead of her paso doble to “Livin’ On a Prayer” by Bon Jovi with pro Val Chmerkovskiy, the social media influencer let the show’s glam team cut her hair, which she told Us was her “idea.”

“I’m always down to do anything to commit to the bit and the costume,” Earle said. “We wanted to go for a Pam Anderson type of vibe, and I was like, ‘Well, she has these shorter pieces in the front. Let’s just cut them off for the week, and let’s go for it.’” Earle added that her strands were “fried off anyway,” so she didn’t feel sentimental about trimming them.

This week, Earle wore a flirty skirt that flared out as she danced. She told Us that she wasn’t worried about having a wardrobe malfunction in the ankle-length design because “the wardrobe team always makes sure with dress rehearsal [that] nothing’s moving around.” She added, “If there is something, they tape you up in there. You’re very secure.”

Earle earned a 39 out of 40 for her performance. This is the second week in a row she and Chmerkovskiy, 39, were just shy of a perfect score.
“I was so ecstatic with our scores. I mean, we really worked very hard this week on this dance and it just felt so rewarding and great to get those scores.” She gushed, “I’m just living out my biggest dreams right now, so just trying to soak it all in.”

Earle shared that she wasn’t upset about not getting a perfect score, either. “It is not an easy competition this year, and I think I take it almost as a compliment not getting a perfect score because that means they see more potential and I’m excited to unlock that new potential and hopefully squeeze out a perfect score eventually at some point during this competition,” she told Us.

After the show, guest judge Flavor Flav explained why he gave Earle a 9 instead of a 10 via X.

“As a judge on #DWTS, you hit your score on a computer first, then hold up the sign. I accidentally hit 9 for someone and told the crew I meant to hit 10, and they said they can’t change it and there’s nothing I can do. That girl deserved perfect 10s,” he wrote, seemingly referencing Earle.

He continued in a separate tweet, “Y’all saw me looking down at the computer confused and couldn’t get the words out because I was watching the computer and then couldn’t find the other paddle cuz I was ready to go with my 10. I found my girl afterwards and apologized and let her know what happen, she was cool.”

Chmerkovskiy also joked to Us about the fact they have yet to receive a perfect score, saying, “We just got to start bribing the judges with more money.”

The pro added, “It’s about that also, stamina, the emotional stamina, together, by yourself, and they’re squeezing us for it. So I like it because when it comes, it’s going to be that much more rewarding.”

Dancing With the Stars airs on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on ABC and Disney+.
