Nick Viall Reveals How Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Reunions Really Work
Nick Viall is pulling back the curtain and giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at just what goes into those drama-filled The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives reunion tapings.
“The season 2 reunion, I think it took maybe six hours,” Viall, 45, shared on the Tuesday, December 9, episode of “The Viall Files” podcast, as viewers continue to sound off on that confusing season 3 reunion. “I think we started early afternoon and finished early evening.”
While Viall admitted that producers had to “certainly cut a lot” of footage out, the finished product “pretty much followed the beats of how we filmed it.”
As for how much preproduction went into the taping, Viall said he was very hands-on with the Hulu team.
“I got in, like, two days before we filmed it. I had a great team around me,” he admitted. “I had a showrunner, a great team of producers helping. They had a set structure. ‘Here are the topics we would typically like to cover.’”
Viall continued, “I was really appreciative of how collaborative they made it for me. All the questions that ended up on the cards were ultimately my questions. They really wanted my input, so I really appreciated that. I watched the season two full times. We spent all night going through the questions, talking about potential follow-up questions.”
In the season 3 reunion, which premiered on Hulu December 4, Stassi Schroeder took over as host. At one point in the show, cast member Jen Affleck shared, “I am so glad it is you because I know you are totally unbiased.”
During his latest podcast episode, Viall explained why he was no longer serving as the reunion host.
“Now that [my wife] Natalie and I are Netflix hosts, it became a bit of a conflict of interest, unfortunately,” he shared. “[They] do not like to mix their talent.”
In 2026, both Natalie and Nick will serve as the hosts of a new Netflix dating experiment called Age of Attraction. The show explores whether age differences matter in finding love.
Even with their new gig, the couple does not plan to stop discussing the latest news surrounding reality TV.
During Tuesday’s episode, Nick shared his opinion on how the season 3 reunion went down.
“I was still kind of surprised in this shorter reunion that there was still a lot of Demi [Engemann],” he said. “I was surprised we just didn’t get a lot of any other story lines like the Jessi and Jordan [Ngatikaura] of it all.”
During season 3, viewers learned that Jessi had an emotional affair with Vanderpump Villa star Marciano Brunette while she was married. Jessi and Jordan ultimately worked on their relationship and are still together.
As for Engemann, she continued to deny claims that she had a romantic connection with Brunette. Instead, she alleged that Brunette inappropriately touched her. (He has denied the claims and maintained that the relationship was consensual.)
Demi’s husband, Bret Engemann, eventually broke his silence on the situation during the reunion.
“The biggest problem I think I have with everybody is the knee-jerk reaction to Demi saying that she was a victim was to not believe her,” he told DadTok. “She wasn’t building a relationship with them and was not flirty at all.”
