The Secret Way Kate Middleton Secures Her Tiaras With a Hairstyle
Princess Kate Middleton has nailed the art of gracefully securing her tiara to her hair.
Kate, 43, stunned in Queen Victoria’s Oriental Circlet Tiara at a state banquet to welcome German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to the United Kingdom at Windsor Palace on Wednesday, December 3. During the event, the Princess of Wales was photographed from the back, revealing how her tiara stays in place. Her brunette hair was twisted into a tight knot around the piece in a subtle and elegant style. The rest of Kate’s mane was styled in loose curls.
Fans shared their thoughts on Kate’s hidden hairdo via X on Thursday, December 4. “Smart Lady. 🥰🥰🥰🥰,” one wrote. Another added, “If I were wearing THE natural diamond tiara meant for queens, I’d make sure it’s SECURED,” while a third commented, “This is how you wear a tiara.”
The tiara was designed by Prince Albert in 1853. According to Aarrard, the piece “was originally set with a collection of opals, one of Albert’s favourite gemstones, and 2,600 diamonds.”
“Later, believing that opals were unlucky, Queen Alexandra replaced them with rubies,” the site continues. Queen Elizabeth II eventually inherited the tiara in 2002, but only wore it once during her reign in 2005 during a trip to Malta.
Kate teamed the tiara with a blue Jenny Packham dress featuring an asymmetrical neckline, all-over sequins, a pleated skirt and a cape that cascaded into a small train.
She accessorized with a blue sash and a star on her chest. Kate added even more sparkle to her look with dangling diamond earrings, which also once belonged to Queen Elizabeth II.
Kate tied her look together with a full beat. The base of her glam featured hydrated skin, bronzed and blushed cheeks. Her eye makeup was complete with brown shadow blended to her crease and smoked out into a subtle wing. She topped off her glam with filled-in eyebrows and pink, glossy lips.
Kate walked into the banquet alongside husband Prince William, who looked sharp in a black blazer with a bright red collar and cuffs. He teamed the coat with a white dress shirt and coordinating black pants, as well as a blue sash and multiple pins.
Kate has had plenty of gorgeous state banquet looks in the past. In September, she looked ethereal in a gold dress as she and Prince William welcomed President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump at Windsor Castle.
Her couture silk dress, designed by British designer Phillipa Leply, featured a white strapless bodice and A-line skirt. Kate made the look even more glamorous by layering a semi-sheer gold Chantilly lace evening coat over the design. The piece was complete with shoulder pads, a high neck and long sleeves.
Kate added even more drama to her ensemble with Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot Tiara. The jewelry features 19 diamond arches with pearls dangling underneath. She held an elegant clutch featuring an ivory silk design with even more pearl details.
