Married at First Sight’s Jalyn Details Divorce on ‘What’s the Reality’
While Jalyn Garcia and Josh Black seemed like a perfect Married at First Sight couple, their relationship abruptly ended in the months after season 19’s Decision Day.
“It was really hard at first feeling, like, I didn’t get closure or an answer that made sense,” Jalyn, 27, said on the Wednesday, December 3, episode of the “What’s the Reality” podcast, recalling her breakup. “I just felt so hurt and blindsided at the time. It’s taken truly up until the whole three months to get to a better place.”

Jalyn and Josh Actually Have a History Pre-‘Married at First Sight’
While the premise of MAFS is to marry a stranger, Jalyn actually crossed paths with Josh long before they said “I do.”
“I walked down the aisle, and I knew him immediately when I saw him,” Jalyn recalled. “I said, ‘This is great. He’s very handsome,’ but then I said to myself [that] I didn’t want to know him and I did. … I [had] never been on a date with him. We’ve never talked at all.”
According to Jalyn, she met Josh at their local Gold’s Gym about eight years ago and subsequently exchanged phone numbers.
“He came up to me and just introduced himself, and I said, ‘Hi,’” she said of their gym interaction. “I would see him here and there, and he would say, ‘Hi.’ I think he worked at a bar once, and I walked in and he took me to grab a drink and I said, ‘OK, thank you’ and left.”
What Happened at Burning Man?
One of Jalyn and Josh’s biggest fights was about the annual festival, which led the Peacock bride to realize she had some major incompatibilities with her husband.
“My biggest fear about Burning Man was camping, but when I’m in love with someone, I’ll do anything,” Jalyn said. “I would have gone camping; that wasn’t the worst thing. I think, for me, the Burning Man experience was OK. That’s a lifestyle and there’s a lot of things that you think about when it comes to that lifestyle. My worry was, ‘Does he like to do recreational drugs?’ That’s a huge issue for me.”
Josh soothed Jalyn’s worries when he stressed that he did not use drugs — and they even camped at Burning Man once the show wrapped.
“I realized this is his whole personality, and it is his lifestyle,” she said. “I’m not letting him go by himself. It’s 10 days, you don’t know what they’re doing. … I just realized I do need to go, and it’s important, because if I don’t like it then it’s not going to work [with us] because it is important to him.”
When Jalyn accompanied Josh to Burning Man, she realized it was “chill.”
“It was tough at first because we spent most of the time doing hard labor, building a shower, building our tents [and] a giant dome,” she recalled. “Once that was all done, we had a lot of fun. It was just him and I for the most part. We went and danced to Taylor Swift.”
What Life Was Like After ‘Married at First Sight’
Jalyn revealed on Wednesday that she moved into Josh’s house shortly after Decision Day.
“We were having a lot of fun. We were redecorating the house, and we traveled,” she said. “We got a third dog and we were raising him, and it was so fun. We were having a blast.”
Despite plenty of adventures, Jalyn acknowledged certain marital “issues.”
“Every issue we had, we handled and we were working through things,” she explained. “Overall, we were always really strong. I would tell him, ‘I’m glad we feel very secure.’”
When Did Jalyn and Josh Breakup?
After a year of marriage, the couple went on vacation to Mexico with Jalyn’s friends. By the end of the getaway, Josh allegedly revealed that he wasn’t happy.
“We had a good time, we went to dinner [and] we had fun,” Jalyn recalled. “[On the last] night, we were talking and he just looked at me and he said, ‘I don’t have a connection with you anymore. I want to break up.’ I was literally in shock.”
Jalyn further claimed that Josh told her she wasn’t adventurous enough for him.
“I was like, ‘I’m confused, that doesn’t make sense. We spent a year doing everything you want to do, and I didn’t do it in a complaining way. I dove in,’” she said. “He really didn’t give me [any reason] that made sense.”
Jalyn then asked whether their marriage was salvageable, so they agreed to “give it a chance” after returning home from the trip. They separated three days later.
“He was a totally different person, like, cold,” Jalyn told podcast host AD Smith. “I asked him, ‘Why are you acting so cold?’ He said, ‘I’m not acting cold. I am cold.’ I had never seen this human in my life. Like, [for] a year and a half, he’s the most chill dude, down for anything.”
Jalyn accompanied Josh to a concert that week, where she noticed her husband acting cagey when a random girl working at the venue approached them. He allegedly didn’t think to introduce Jalyn, later telling her that he “didn’t know” how he knew the other woman in the first place.
“I was like, ‘Did you hook up with her? Did you block her?’ He’s like, ‘We’re leaving.’ I knew in that moment, this was it. He was red [and] this was his out,” Jalyn said, claiming Josh asked her to leave his house that night. “I moved out pretty quick. It was just, like, I didn’t know who he was. He was acting totally chill, not sad.”
Jalyn Is Ready to Move On
“I’m excited for what’s next,” she gushed. “I feel, like, I’m definitely ready to step into the dating pool again. I feel excited just because I know that I can trust my gut all the time, and that there’s somebody out there. If I had what I thought was a great marriage that was just me immersing myself in his world, then how much more fun is it going to be to be married to someone who we share that?”
