TikTok’s Matt Howard Shares Update After Receiving Hair Transplant
TikTok star Matt Howard is sharing an update on his hair transplant journey.
“Hair transplant update,” Howard wrote via his Instagram Story on Sunday, November 30, while sharing an image featuring his new and improved hairline.
In another post, Howard zoomed in on the progress and wrote, “New hair is coming in!!!!”
Howard then shared an overheard view of his head, which showed some patches of skin.
“But … I had a lot of hair fall out on top that should grow back just fine over the next 9 months (final result 1 year post surgery),” Howard wrote.
Howard opened up in September about his decision to receive a hair transplant in Turkey. In the Instagram clip, Howard explained that he realized his hair was “thinning” when he tried to “rock a buzz cut” last year.
“I was super embarrassed and started wearing hats to hide my insecurity,” he shared at the time. “Male pattern baldness runs in my family so it was only a matter of time til I would go bald too. I started taking finasteride and minoxidil but I didn’t see the results I was hoping for.”
Howard began doing research, discovering that hair transplants in the United States can cost “upwards of $20,000,” while in Turkey “you’re looking at around $3,500 — which includes all transportation and a three to four night stay at a five star hotel.”
Howard explained that his new hairline was drawn on his head and he “started to get a bit nervous right before local anaesthesia because I was going to be awake for six hours while they implanted 2,800 grafts.” He promised to share his final results with his followers later.
Matt’s wife, Abby Howard, shared a message of support in the comments section, writing, “I would love you bald or hairy🫶🏼.”
Matt and Abby rose to online fame while documenting their daily lives on social media, where they have amassed more than 5.3 million followers on TikTok. The couple shares sons Griffin, 3, and August, 2.
In August, Matt and Abby revealed that they were expecting their third child. The next month, the pair shared that Abby suffered a pregnancy loss.
“It is with very heavy hearts that we share about the loss of our baby girl born far too soon,” Matt and Abby wrote via Instagram at the time. “At a routine pregnancy appointment, our doctor could not find a heartbeat. Shortly after they sent us in for an ultrasound where the technician said words we will never forget, ‘I am so sorry I do not have good news.’”
The statement continued, “That is when we got the gender reveal we never hoped for and also the news that our baby had a genetic condition that took her life around 17 weeks gestation.”
The pair wrote that that the news “felt unimaginable” and the grief has been “absolutely devastating.”
“But we feel so much gratitude for the time that we did get to have with her. And we still have hope. Hope has continued to show up for us in so many ways,” Matt and Abby concluded. “For now we will grieve and continue to think of ways to honor her life offline. Thoughts and prayers are more than welcome. Thank you everyone for celebrating this precious life with us for the past 17 weeks.❤️.”
