Sadie Sink Shares Her 1 Beauty Rule When It Comes to Her Hair
Sadie Sink has one dealbreaker when it comes to trends and booking roles.
Sink, 23, opened up to Glamour about her iconic copper strands in a new interview published on Tuesday, November 25.
“I’ve thought about it, but I’ve never dyed my hair,” she said. “Anyone who has red hair knows the ups and downs of your relationship with it.” Sink explained, “Sometimes you’re like, ‘Yes, I love my hair. It’s the best thing ever.’ And then sometimes you’re like, ‘Oh my God, I hate it. I just want to change it.’”
The Stranger Things actress added that growing up, all redheads hear “is to never dye your hair.”
“I never have, and I don’t think I will,” she said. “I like the idea that my hair isn’t dyed.”
No matter what role comes her way, Sink won’t dye her hair. Instead, if she needs to have a different shade, she’ll rely on wigs.
Another thing she hasn’t touched is her ears. “I don’t have any piercings or tattoos or anything,” she noted. “I like the idea of never doing anything.”
Sink also addressed how many of Hollywood’s favorites are ever evolving, but doesn’t see herself participating in the trends.
“Nowadays it’s hard to ignore how much people change looks and fashion, and all of that has blended into actors and the entertainment industry,” Sink said.
She continued: “Growing up in that, and actively being a part of that, is a little bit confusing sometimes because it’s like, ‘Wait, what? Are we all supposed to look like this? Is this what everyone wants us to look like?’ I don’t want to do that.”
Sink previously opened up about chopping her hair into a bob while chatting with Refinery29 in 2023.
While she didn’t dye her mane, she shared that the cut was “for a role” — later revealed to be O’Dessa, a post-apocalyptic rock musical film about a girl who attempts to find a family heirloom but ends up in a dangerous city.
“It felt right for the character,” Sink explained, noting that she wouldn’t have chopped her long mane to her shoulders otherwise.
“Once it happened, I felt very empowered by it,” she added. “Everyone knows me with long hair. It was always such a talking point; my hair was a very defining feature for me. So to get rid of that — especially just turning 21 and stepping into adulthood — that big change felt really exciting.”
Sink gushed that the look wasn’t only “right” for her character, but it felt “right” for where she was in her personal life. “It feels more like me. It’s also hot as hell right now, so it’s nice to have a foot of hair off.”
In Stranger Things, Sink’s character, Max Mayfield, is normally seen wearing her hair parted down the middle and styled in long, beachy waves, or in two braids.
The final season of Stranger Things is set to release in three volumes, with the premiere on Wednesday, November 26, at 8 p.m. ET. Three more episodes will be released on Netflix on December 25, with the finale on December 31.
