Meghan Markle’s Spokesperson Slams Claim She Stole a 00 Dress

No, Meghan Markle didn’t take a $1,700 dress from a photo shoot without permission.

A spokesperson for the Duchess of Sussex, 44, cleared the air after fans wondered if Meghan took a green Galvan gown from a 2022 photo shoot with Variety, and then rewore the number in a trailer for of With Love, Meghan.

“The insinuation that any items were taken without the full knowledge and agreement of the on-set stylists or their respective teams is not only categorically false, but also highly defamatory,” a spokesperson told Us Weekly in a Tuesday, November 25, statement.

The statement continued, “Any items kept were done so in total transparency and in accordance with contractual arrangements.”

After Meghan was seen wearing the emerald green number in a trailer for a holiday episode of With Love, Meghan on Monday, Page Six reported that the actress kept the number for her “royal archive.”

A source told the publication that she “took the dress from the shoot without asking,” noting that it “disappeared” from Variety’s set. Page Six also cited a second insider that claimed Meghan brought the dress home.

Fans quickly took to social media to share their thoughts on the matter, with one person writing via Twitter, “Meghan Markle is a thief.” A second added, “Kept = Stole. She STOLE it.”

Others, meanwhile, defended Meghan and called the claims false.

“Keep perpetuating this lie,” one user wrote. Another person agreed, calling the allegations a “defamatory statement.”

The dress in question featured a one-shoulder neckline that wrapped around her neck and cascaded down her bodice. The rest of her dress was complete with a column skirt.

In the trailer, Meghan styled the number with smokey eyeshadow, long lashes and blushed cheeks. Her brunette hair was parted down the side and styled in beachy waves.

While Meghan was a working royal, she was not allowed to accept clothing for free due to a protocol that avoids favoritism. They are, however, allowed to be loaned items for events.

While she was a working royal, Meghan opened up about sending messages through her clothes during an April episode of the “Jamie Kern Lima Show” podcast.

Throughout the episode, she was asked about her influence on fashion and the “Meghan effect.”

She gushed that she loved it, and shared that it felt “really great when specifically, it can help uplift brands that have a great ethos and female founders.”

Meghan added, “There was a long time where I wasn’t out talking. So if you couldn’t hear me, how could I be heard through what I was wearing if that was what people were focusing on?”

She noted that she didn’t need to “say a word,” but instead let her looks speak for itself to help “small companies” expand their clientele.

One brand in particular that she wore was an Australian label, Outland Denim, that employs victims of human trafficking, which she wore during a 2018 trip to Australia with Prince Harry. “By wearing those jeans, I knew it was going to allow them to save more women,” she gushed.

Us Weekly reached out to Variety for comment but did not immediately hear back.
